Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Sounds like lots of folks here are taking dives. Maybe if we can make it to the new year accident free, BFSSFG will give us a bonus or throw us all an office party! We can only hope.

Remember, If you think safety is a joke... you'll die laughing!

I just got offered an insurance settlement yesterday from the guy who hit me in my wreck a year ago. Getting hit by cars can pay well, as it turns out.

Got hit HARD almost 2 weeks ago. Just got home from 8 days in the hospital. My face is torn up, my jaw is wired shut, I'm missing a few teeth and I have a trachiametry hole in my throat. My beautiful old Coppi is also at least partially ruined. Fixie wheel still good though. Front wheel not so much.

Been around 2 months now. And damn Jack, that's rough. Glad you're out of the hospital and healing up.

Whoa, man, that's intense. Take care, and have a fast recovery.

Do yourself a favor, and stay away from ebay while you're convalescing. When I got injured earlier this year (dumbass 'no helmet' thing) I went a bit crazy, and I'm still trying to sell off the stuff I bought as a 'look forward to something' excuse.

Getting hit by a car is one thing, but stabbing yourself in the bottom of your foot with a knife? Were you trying?

I pedal struck for the first time in months the other day. I didn't accident though.

I needed to cut something (thread from my sewing machine) real fast as I was leaving the house. I have a swiss army knife on my key chain, which hangs from my belt loop. After doing the quick cut, I forgot to close my knife. A few hours later I go to sit down with my foot under me and the knife gets between my foot and my rear and I sit on the knife which then stabs me in the foot. It hurt and bled a lot, but me and my girlfriend finished dinner and then went and got some stitches at the ER.

I am very surprised at how many guys email me looking for frames, who have just had insurance settlements etc...often they are pretty hideous sounding stacks too.......must take guts to get back on the road after something like that. I have my share of mini-crashes, but never gone through any car windows....eehhh...

I broke off my rear blinkie yesterday when I pedal striked on a curb. Would have torn up my hands too, but I have awesome Mechanix gloves.
