tuffwheels

Does any one else wish you could get the old bmx style tuffwheels(platstic mag wheels) in a 700c size? I sure do. Discuss...

MyBikeGotStolen 12-03-07 12:31 AM

I think what really needs "discussing" is the fact that 90% of the threads in here are started with "discuss" at the end.

FWIW, I thought about getting a set of mags for my folder. To bad I hocked it off for $$ to move with.

kemmer 12-03-07 12:49 AM

Dude, they're called aerospokes. Everybody has them. The funny thing is that I remember the same exact arguments about mag wheels.

kid 1:"why do you like those mag wheels?"
kid 2:"cause they look so rad"
kid 1:"dude, but they're so heavy"
kid 2:"well, they're really strong too"
kid 1:"I knew this kid who was riding with them and they shattered into a million pieces"

Tangsooyuk 12-03-07 01:14 AM

The last things I need are heavier wheels and more attention.

blickblocks 12-03-07 01:19 AM

I saw some 26" ones, NOS go for around $100. Technically you could put those on your track bike...maybe you could pull some barspins?

Edit - They must've been 24".

pedal strike would have been out of control

Yes I'm familiar with aerospokes but they just don't have the same look, and you can't true them if they get out of of true by putting them in a freezer (or outside when it gets cold enough).

deathhare 12-03-07 04:55 AM

Thats really a myth about Tuffwheels in the freezer.
Ive probably had no less than 10 sets of those damn wheels.

mihlbach 12-03-07 05:40 AM

Sorry, no 700c.
Write them and let them know how many would buy them if they were available.

jgarcia186 12-03-07 01:16 PM

i have a white set on my scraper bike

Quam 12-04-07 12:29 AM

Skyway doesn't, and will never make Tuff Wheels in 26" or larger sizes. The best you can do is build up a 24" bmx and rock some colored tuffs. <-- The guy who runs that site works for Skyway. I recall someone asking him on a bmx forum if 26" tuffs are a possibility. Apparently Dupont ZYTEL Nylon, the material tuffs are made out of, would flex WAY too much for them to be considered a safe product. Hell, people even complain about 24" tuffs flexing too much.

They look bad-***** though.

Didn't BSNYC predict 24" BMX cruisers to become the next Track bike?

The threads will be all about their knees and lower backs hurting then.

I just want to go on record that I've been saying this for a while. My suspicions were confirmed when I was in NYC over the summer, and I saw some hipster riding a 24" ELF with white Tuffs.

SpiderMike 12-04-07 10:28 AM

I only remember the freezer myth applying to Z-rims.

mykrrrr 12-04-07 11:09 AM

This ***** has gone far enough! The first hipster I see on an old BMX cruiser is is getting kicked in the b@lls/bu$h. You fu(ks have been warned.

Eeeeeasy, holy christ.... While I do agree that trend-hopping is lame, at least people are riding bikes.

That said, if you know enough about old school bmx's, it should be easy to spot a true vintage collector/rider like the one posted above versus a "look at me"-er just based on the parts selection.

I stand by my comment... foot in the b@lls.

The CW posted above was sick (the red 3s are a nice touch). A phase one with a drilled UNI, Flite cranks, and HUTCH bear traps would have been the *****.

I thought CX was the new fixed. Damn, I'm going the wrong way.
