Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

All in the details...Holiday gift ideas

Post your idea for a holiday present under $50 for a special biker boy or girl. Make it something that the person probably wouldn't buy for themselves (or simply neglect).

I'll start:

Tattered bar wrap that's mostly electrical tape? Rewrap their bars and surprise them when they go to ride their bike. <$10

Full fenders are possibly the greatest things ever. I just discovered this today. ~$30

Even if you don't have sewing skills, top tube pads are super easy to make. Embroider their name on! $free?

Full fenders indeed rule. I installed them for my friend for her birthday.

Soma non-leaching water bottles = water drinking happiness for cheap. Long rides are much more enjoyable when your water doesn't taste like ****.

Planet Bike Superflash. Best cheap blinkie evar.

A nice brass bell.

Kool Stop Salmon brake pads + installation.

Smartwool socks.

Arm warmers. Even if said friend is not the lycra type they come in handy.

Finding a decent fitting/looking helmet for under $50 might be a challenge but it can probably be done in most cases. Show them a few pictures from this forum then drag your helmetless friend to the shop.

Quality brakes can also be found for under $50

Velo Orange has these great little stands that let you put the bike anywhere and function as a simple work stand as well, they're $15

http://www.velo-orange.com/twolegstand.html

Plenty of other fun stuff too:

No joke, I found those ^^^^ at Whole Foods, and I was going to take a picture to send to my mom. This employee came running and yelling at me about how I wasn't allowed to take photos "without express permission from corporate".

It would have been a good gift...

Nobody has ever given me alcohol as a gift. Tires/tubes are a good idea, but some people have very specific tire preferences. I just ride whatever the dumpster has on special so tires would be good for me.

Planet Bike Freddy Fenders have treated me well, but they're not as pretty as a set of Honjos or Velo Orange metal ones.

Just sent my mom a long list of tools I've been needing for WAY too long now. Had to make sure to top the c-note mark to take advantage of the 20% off deal going at nashbar right now
