Fellow biker stole my TT pad.

So about 20 minutes ago at work I'm walking to the bathroom to take a piss. My bike is locked to a parking meter right in front of the building. As I walk by, I see a guy on black IRO pull up next to my bike - I figure he's just going to lock up on the meter as well. I go take a leak, come back 20 seconds later - dude on IRO gone, TT pad gone. What kind of grimy sh*t is that? My bike is a piece of junk, and pretty much the only aesthetically pleasing aspect of it gets ripped off by another biker. What a jerk.

Well, aesthetically pleasing is up for debate.
But seriously, that sucks. If you spot your pad on that IRO down the line, take it back and scratch the sh*t out of the dude's tt. And if the dude happens to be on the bike, be sure to push him off first to make it a little easier.

Who is going to protect your top tube now?

If you see that thing again snatch it back and replace with sandpaper.

I wouldn't escalate this thing by stealing the pad back, but I definitely might be tempted to mod his/your tt pad by by placing a piece of sandpaper or even just a handful of sand between the pad and the tube if you ever find it locked up somewhere...

Or if you want to be funny--steal the pad back, but replace it with jumbo panty liners.

So you wouldn't take your own tt protector back for fear of escalating the situation. Instead you would take the time to remove the pad, add sand/sand paper and replace it?

Cycle 1 "Hey what are you doing to my bike?"
Cycle 2 "Yeah this is my top tube pad I think you stole it."
Cycle 1 "Ughhhhhhh...."
Cycle 2 "No worries brah, you can keep it, I'm just putting some sandpaper in here to conflict with any reason to have a top tube pad."
Cycle 1 "That rules! You wanna date?"

Yeah, somehow taking your own property back doesn't count as escalation in my book. Taking back your pad, loosening the dude's stem and front tire, following him till he bites it, and posting pics/video would qualify as escalation. Though possibly quite justifiable.

PS: Anyone got the link to that video where the dude does this to a bike and waits for some kid to come along and try to steal it? Priceless.

even better if you see it locked up take off the pad than take your lock to his top tube write "now were even xoxoxo" on the inside of the pad and put it back

Really the only way to teach this thief may be to purchase them a pad of equal or greater value. That will teach em' to mess with you.

Personalized stitching WINS!!!

I cover my top tube protector with electrical tape to help ward of the thieves.

i think that you should light it on fire(while on the bike) instead of taking it back.

one of those "now we're even xoxoxo" notes taped to the bars for effect, maybe?

I like the sabotage idea, but I think it'd be even better to keep it more subtle. Just throw all his adjustments out of whack - raise his seatpost and slide the saddle back a bit, maybe **** with his chain tension, slightly mis-align his stem, change his bar angle, mess with the positioning of his brake lever/s (though somehow I doubt he has any)... you get the idea.

That or do your best to strip all his hardware. That'd be a horrible PITA.

You didn't actually see him steal it.

...I'm just saying, you would really suck if you got revenge, then found out someone else stole it.

well he's obviously going to get revenge on a bike with his tt protector, right? (assuming it's recognizable as his own)

I honestly don't really care about the $15 pad. It just really irks me that another rider, (and one with a much nicer bike to boot) would do something so petty and disrespectful.

Philly is not that big a city, I doubt he would be dumb enough to actually use it, the chances are pretty good I will see that guy's bike again. I think he just took it to be a jerk.

Find the bike with your TT pad. Hide and wait for the guy to come back. Follow him and find out his identity. Become a powerful tycoon that can pull lots of strings at home and internationally. Employ the guy under false pretenses. At first, make it look like his career is going great. And THEN you can start undoing his life, step by step. Mwahahahahahhh...
