chainline!! argh!!
 

hey wondering if anyone knows what the specs are of a stock 2002 bianchi pista, particularly the bb and crankset. i'm trying to piece parts together, and am having a hell of a hard time trying to get a decent chain line. i'm thinking that maybe knowing the specs of the stock bb and crankset can shed some light on this.

currently running off a shimano 600 double, mounted on the stock 68x107bb, but it's f-ed the way up. only the inner ring is lining up (barely..off by 2mm), and even that is a 39t. if i go higher, up to 44t, it'll definitely get in the way of the chainstay...

in brighter news, if anyone can recommend a good crankset for the 02 pistas that's worked for him/her, i'm all ears!!

I would think your problem is running the double. Road stuff always runs wider than track.

By "get in the way of the chainstay" do you mean your ring is about to touch the frame?

'02 cranks were some proprietary stuff, not sure what they really were. If your current setup is 2mm off, put a 2mm spacer under the BB and call it a day.

If a 44t won't clear at 42mm, make sure the frame is straight.

Why not get a 68x103 BB and run your chainring on the outside position. Running doubles is pretty common practice and everything should be working. I agree with Landgolier, check to make sure your frame is straight.

hey thanks for the replies. it sounds like a good idea to check if the frame is straight just in case. as general guidance, is it safe to refer to the sheldon brown site for spacing (http://sheldonbrown.com/frame-spacing.html)? can anyone recommend a better source?

That page is fine, though the number of people who think they need to cold set their frames is about 5x the number that actually do. The pista is 120mm at the rear I'm almost positive.
