Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Anyone Live in Memphis?

Hey guys, I am heading to Memphis for New Years. I should be arriving on Dec. 30 and will leave of Jan. 2. I have thought about bringing my bike to go explore the city. Anyone on here live in Memphis? Just thought I'd ask and see if anyone is up for riding.

I will defend tennessee when it comes to bikes. I grew up in Knoxville and biking is quite popular there. Its just more MTB than road or fixed gear. We have some kick @$$ MTB trails back in East TN. But as far as Memphis goes, I've never been but my wife's best friend lives there now and we are going to celebrate my b-day(New Years Eve) and New Years in Memphis. Beale Street should be cool though.

Seen a few around Vandy.
No shops in the city sell any fixie parts outside of selling a few Langsters or something though right?

I've seen a few more on campus over the past year or so, but you're spot on about the shops. Each one might sell one stock like the Madison or Rush Hour. But it's still a nice place to ride, and there's always the internets for parts.

My parents live in Memphis so I'm there a bit. Haven't seen many fixed gears or single speeds around, but there are definitely road bike groups around.
I go to school in Nashville and have lately seen quite a few on campus. Not sure if its cause I've been on the lookout for them this year or if there has actually been an increase.

There is a super bike co-op in the basement of First Congregational United Church of Christ at 1000 South Cooper St. it's worth a look. That place also has a really cool film co-op. Also, the Stax museum is amamzing...

I'm from Memphis, and I ride down Beale every morning to get to work before they close it off. I just rode last night with the Co-op mentioned above it was about 39 degrees last night and there were 10 of us and only 4 were not fixed gears, ranging from swobo's to a 1961 Colanago fixie. Usually there are more riders if it's warmer. You might want to contact Isaiah https://www.revolutionsmemphis.com/ to see if anythings going on that weekend.
