white novatech hubs
i'm looking for white hubs, can't seem to find much. so far all i've found some pretty pricey phils on the mash website and various home white powder coated formula hubs.
i came across these novatech hubs on ebay...anyone know anything about them? http://cgi.ebay.com/Novatech-Track-H...QQcmdZViewItem supposedly they're the same hubs as bens cycle's milwuakee hubs just without the logos. |
I have heard from a few places (cant remember specific threads) that they are inferior to good ol' Formula track hubs. I have no personal experience with them however. I don't recall what aspect of them is inferior. If its the bearings, a simple upgrade to Phil Wood 6000 series bearings for less than $20 would be effective and awesome. If its the threads or flanges, I would steer clear as those parts obviously aren't replaceable. They do look cool though.
I'm interested as well. Anyone else have experience with them? *edit* looked at some large pics of the hubs and it looks like the threads may be a bit shallow. Could just be the pic though. |

Novatech is joytech which is ...
Fill in the blanks. |
looks like a fair enough price for powdercoated (or any ano'd for that matter) hub, go for it
|
Yeah **** those MASH hubs. I'm going to buy a pair of these and be the guinea pig.

okay, milwuakee hubs are joytech also. from the reviews i've read, people are fine with the milwuakees and haven't had any stripping. more or less i've heard they're comparable to formulas. |
Yeah, one has to remember that lots of people in the SSFG forum are quite elitist about gear. (Im sure I have been guilty myself.) If they heard from some guys friends nephews uncle that the Novatech hubs failed once for someone, they will spout on the forum that you will spontaneously combust if you touch a novatech/joytech hub. Sure thats an exaggeration, but Its hard to know what to believe. The best thing to do is to take it from someone who has personally used them.
That being said, I think most have heard of novatech/joytechs iffy reputation. Has anyone ACTUALLY used them? I would like to hear from them. Also, diacompe seems to have a good rep. I would think about those! |
they're the same as nashbar hubs, also the same as the hubs on the rush hour. no problems here.

UPDATE: I won this auction and the hubs showed up today. First impression is that they are cracked and chipping. They were shipped in just an envelope with no padding, and it looks like they were thrown into something. Came with a hollow axle. I'll throw together a set of wheels in the next few days and see what they're all about. |

hey, just wanted to revive this and see if anyone knows how to get a hold of those FLV folks, the website seems to be all sorts of screwy for me, maybe its just my browser.
Also seeing if anyone has found any other suggestions for white hubs. |
if you don't have money to shell out for good product, i would suggest buying something in your price range that is known to be quality, or save up to get something good
|
who said anything about not having the money, yeah i dont have the money for those phils but the FLV ones are japanese and their website is all but unnavigateable? i dont think thats a word but who cares. and they dont say anything about being able to ship to the US. and there are very few selections out there for white hubs.

I know this is a super old thread, but I wanted to let you guys know that for seven months I've been riding about 20 to 30 miles a day delivering food with a rear novatech hub. I ride pretty hard, and it hasn't caused any problems. I would upgrade but I just don't see a reason to do so.

pics or the whole thing was a lie.
