Fixed Fenders

show me your fenders- where style supplants coverage
and your thoughts.

I'm not going to look up "supplant".

But once my hardware for my cromoplastics comes in, I may post a photo of my be-fendered bike.

go full fenders Get somthing that has 3 attactment points on the Front. Ie:top/brake. Then 2 sets of wire attaching to the plastic bit to the fender mounts, Stronger less likely to get bent and start rubbing SKS makes good stuff in my experience

zip22 12-07-07 03:46 PM

style definitely supplanted coverage on this bike

Those look nice Caloso. I'm currently waiting for my black sks p35 fenders. Not too many people sporting them these days because they want a minimalist approach.

I personally think those raceblade (non-full fenders) are useless. Might as well get full coverage if you want less muck up your headset, drivetrain etc.

caloso 12-07-07 04:27 PM

Thanks.

Yeah, I suffered through RaceBlades for two winters and enough was enough. I was forever having to readjust them and they didn't do anything to keep the muck out of the BB area.

I had to get creative with zipties and p-clips to get these fenders on this old Trek 660, but it turned out well.

option.iv 12-07-07 04:33 PM

Yeah, that's another thing, they just seem less secure. And since they're quick release, they're probably likely to get stolen where I live. But more power to the people who dig their raceblades.

I really think that full fenders don't look at all bad, perhaps sexy even. Well, it's definitely cooler than a **** stain up your back complete with the pissed your pants look..

steamroller + fenders = win

would these work on a kiloTT? it has fender mounts, just dunno if it'll fit.

mander 12-07-07 07:30 PM

Here are my fenders; they're two rear SKS/Esges with one modded for use as an extra long, no-flap-necessary front fender. With the panniers off the bike looks pretty nice.

okay so who else has modded a rear fender on a bike with track ends to make wheel removal easier
?

baxtefer 12-07-07 07:53 PM

mod? there's no need
just set them up far enough back

Buy sks guards and use the secu-clips on the rear instead of the front, or buy an extra set. They are intended to be used on the front so the stays will be released if something gets sucked up between the tyre and the guard.
If you use them on the rear you can yank the stays out of the clip and easily remove the wheel.

Newb kestion: why fenders? What is the utility?

doofo 12-09-07 02:18 PM

creates dead air around your tires adding 15% to yur speed

mander 12-09-07 02:36 PM

True, also they prevent friction burns caused by body contact with your tires at speed.

Seriously, they're to keep the road water from getting all over you. The rear one keeps your ass clean and the front one keeps the water out of your eyes. They're great.

sks raceblades = best option for non eyeletted frames?

p-clips

dynamo 12-09-07 09:43 PM

Now that it started snowing now and then I threw the rear one on, the front one creates some problems with toe-overlap.
