Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Heavy, slow weight lifting makes you heavy and slow on a bike...
but seeing as a sizeable fraction of this forum are most likely skin-and-bones hipsters who smoke like chimneys, I wouldn't be surprised if she did...

ummmm pretty sure track sprinters lift some heavy weights
and while you don't do it slow
when lifting 70-90 percent of your max
you wanna lift in a controlled manner
not speed weights

that doesn't mean she would be fast on a bike. there are stories of bodybuilders who couldn't walk up a flight of stairs without running out of breath.

Thanks, I've actually done pretty good in regards to keeping the bike cheap for my cost. I bought a Trek 1000 (lowest end alum bike, came with full Sora 8speed) that had been upgraded to full EC90 group, CK headset, and FULL Ultegra groupo for very cheap. I sold the frame, wheelset and Ultegra group for a good bit more than I bought the whole thing for so I got the EC90 group, CK headset and a few other things for free. I had a similar experience with a Cannondale track bike as well which got me the wheelset, bullhorns and brake lever.

If I ever get around to lacing my Superbe Pro hubs to something that will become my nice wheelset. I've been thinking silver DT Swiss RR 1.2 rims and taking the stickers off.

I'm probably going to take the fork and bullhorns off and put the steel fork back on and some Powerlite junior BMX bars. I rarely ride the bike more than 20 miles so it's very overkill as is. Hell the fork can finance most of another frame.

My new fixed gear folder! It's awesome. I locked out the rear suspension by replacing the coil with a section of downtube from an old frame. I also replaced the suspension fork with a BMX fork. I had to mill the stem to fit inside the BMX steerer, haha.

ummm pretty sure i'm training for track right now. dudes don't do 5 reps of all out **** and call it good. it's more reps less weight. there's definitely a difference between sculpting your body to win a vanity competition, and sculpting it to win something as athletic as cycling.

first post in the singlespeed forum!

this is the mid-70's Raleigh that I found on the side of the road and I am currently hacking apart... like someone a page back said... they couldn't get the cassette off, so I left it. Also, the big ring has to stay on the crank... bummer. oh well!

by the end of summer it will have an all white paint job and possibly a new saddle (this leather one is nice though!).

more pics and progress details can be found on my blog: http://letsjustbemonophonic.blogspot.com

haha, yeah.

tina baby, last i heard, i could be wrong here so don't get all smart with me if i am, but i think bodybuilders to lots of reps. now....power lifters....the ones that are real big with not much definition...wonder what they do.

if you really want to know what training to do, start googling to find out what the australians do as far as training.

Why stereotype? Plenty of powerlifters are real big w/ definition. Sure, not 3%bf competition conditioning, but still defined enough.

Honestly, lets not discuss weightlifting in a cycling forum full of hipsters.
