Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Just finished a ss conversion of a bike given to me (Faggin, Italian). Yesterday I re-taped the bars (that Easton cork tape plus Fizik gel pads turned out a bit too thick for my tastes), and replaced the brake cable housing and hoods. Previously, I stripped the derailleurs, freewheel and chain, and installed a BMX freewheel, put on some French pedals, new chain, saddle and seatpost. That's about it. It's a total kick to ride. Right now, it's my favorite bike.

Yeah man!! But don't get one of those Motobecane 29ers. If you want something in that price range, get a Redline Monocog or a KHS Solo One. Both are good bikes for under $500.

I love how you left the Brifters on just as brake-levers. I've always wanted to do that with Sora brifters just to see how it would feel/look.

Nice job.

It depends on people. I have a short torso; I'm 5'9 and 1/2 and I ride a 53 cm.

Here's my brand new Monocog 29er. Built with surly disc hubs, salsa delgado cross rims, truvativ cranks, tomicog bolt-on cog and various other parts. This thing is like a tank compared to my road bikes.

Can we get some full shots of that thing? It sounds wicked and the sneak-peak-esque photos leave me wanting more.

My 1940 CCM "path" racer... equipped with a coaster hub.

Despite many offers I'm keeping her.
