Ok so here goes. I've made a few other posts here, but not been too active. I figure I'll post the bike tonight.

This is my first fixed gear conversion. I was up in the air on whether I was going to convert it to fixed or a simple single speed until recently I said **** it, and bit the bullet. It's definitely a work in progress, but it's my daily rider. I've been told it's a PX-10, but if somebody knows for sure what model it is I'm riding, feel free to chime in.

I got the bike for free from the OKC Infoshop about 9 months ago now. I've only really had the money to throw at it here lately. I just overhauled the bottom bracket and it is in great shape. I'm using some donated cheap Shimano cranks (170) that the bb is a little too long for. I'll replace them both as soon as cashflow permits. I still need to overhaul the headset but it seems to be functioning properly at the moment so I'm in no hurry. Here's a list of the new stuff.

Dura-Ace 16t fixed cog and lockring.
Weinmann SP-17 700c Wheelset (hubs have no name on them, came with wheelset.)
Vittoria Zaffiro tires.
Sunlite cheap pedals.
Selle San Marco Ischia saddle
44t Chainring for donated cranks.

For my daily abuser, I'm pretty stoked on it. It needs some paint touchup, but I don't see myself stripping it and painting it another color until it's bad enough to need it. Even then, the decal sets are up on Ebay pretty regular so that is still an option.

Like I said my next point of focus is the cranks and bottom bracket, as well as maybe removing the front brake, and some black bar tape. I'm not trying to break the bank, but this ride has been worth it so far.

That frame has a super long wheelbase. Very interesting.

This is kind of why I stayed with the drops. I've considered doing other bars, but I think the only think appropriate would be the drops or some bullhorns. It's a long tall bike. 62cm. I'm a tall dude.

Some of the week's builds...

Mystery frame mated to some hand built 27 inch wheels with a vintage coaster hub... the ladies love this bike.

I built up this vintage Leader mtb yesterday morning with a 48:18 ss gearing (66GI)... the frame is gorgeous (Ishiwata double butted) and the hubs are vintage Sansin which are as smooth as silk.

1984 Centurion Comp TA SS conversion

This is my 1984 Centurion Comp TA. Was my dads old Triathalon bike in 1984, decided to give it new life an converted it to a singlespeed (couldn't deal with those downtube shifters). Original Shimano 600 components with Dia-Compe Aero Gran Compe levers. Awesome to ride.

You should use the downtube shifters to trigger a crossbow bolt launcher or something...

Dang man, you've got clearance for 38c's, fenders, and a barney costume on that thing.

Thank you -- no, this would have been Chicago built.

Thanks, Jet Sanchez -- they are 80's clincher Omega Strada rims

beethaniel 07-25-08 12:49 AM

changed a couple things, I think its done now.....okay, maybe put on the brake I have for it (black Shimano 105), just need to find a lever that is going to fit the bars. And that also means a machined front rim, which means building a different front wheel, prolly go black low flange phil track, or maybe a kiss-off hub, then it will be done.

i have a similar set-up... my rims aren't machined. the bike still stops. is that a preference thing? I have the brake there but I only use it on special occasions.

Not me?? :(

Here is a pic of the bike when I first got it - I hadn't put the pedals on yet and the handlebars were pretty rusted out so I removed them.

Not the greatest picture, but here is my fixed. I use it for about 1/2 my training and just completed my first fixed-century
