Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I love riding it fixed but I just don't know how people can ride without brakes. I keep front and rear on at all times. I don't trust other drivers enough when I'm riding 20 mph.
this is nice.

I love this machine! How do you like the Ultremos? Do you have enough (road) miles on them to comment on durability?

just built up my second FG, 1st was a conversion, and this is my 1st time posting on here.
my bike as it sits now, soon to... replace the spokes on rear wheel, get shorter cranks, possibly new pedals, and fresh powder coat keeping it black and white.

the mud and dirt is from its virgin, midnight ride through the forest preserve with no lights w/ my mtb friend.
..and weather still too cold to turn on the hose to wash it.

Hey guys, I'm new here. I've been doing triathlon for 3 years now, but was so intrigued by the fixie wave that came to town, I decided I had to build one. Here's a few pics of what I ended up with. I started with a 1984 Schwinn World Sport Frame and got some Sun Ringle rims off ebay. The rest of the parts I was able to get locally, and I had some help assembling it at the shop where I bought the parts. It's geared 44/17 or 44/18 on the freewheel. I'm going to add a brake in the front tomorrow, but I really want to get another stem with some drop bars attached and take it down to Atlanta and ride in the velodrome!

What do you guys think?

Awesome. It's good to see other folks embracing the pink motif.

If you're headed to the velodrome, you may want steeper gearing, like a 46/48t front chainring and a 16 or smaller on the cog, but what you've got should be great for around town.

Nice work.

Critique my bike

I saw this thread and thought you guys could tear my bike up a bit. I just finished it a few days ago. I haven't actually ridden it yet.

I saw this thread and thought you guys could tear my bike up a bit.
Tighten the chain, switch the stem (it looks like one of those failure prone Modolos mentioned elsewhere on the forum), lose the decals on the wheels, go to black cable housing for the brakes (the blue doesn't match and black is less visible), get some blue Oury grips, get some better pedals (with clips), and lose the computer.

But whatever, I'd still ride it as it is now, minus the chain slack and the dangerous stem.

Now tighten that chain, swap that stem, and go ride it!
