Working prety well. No movement yet and I've struggle up a 16% hill that takes me home. (Gotta get rid of that 46x16) (Or grow bigger legs:) Used a knurled nut on the inside as a spacer and that along with the knurls on the QR gives a really good bite.

The tires are Vittoria 700x27 clincher cross tires. Not aware if they have another color but if so, let me know. :) They have a certain quality when it comes to looks.....

So far no walking, but I better find some wood to knock on.

That's a neat idea.. I never thought of it.

As for the green tires, I was wondering.. they're unusual looking. Cool in a way.

Here's my fix. I finished it about 3 weeks ago. Since these were taken, I've flipped and chopped the handlebars for skid-tastic fun.

Specs:

Tommasini road frame that came with a full dura-ace group. Found it on consignment for 300 bucks. I was able to use the cranks, 42t chainring, front hub, headset, handlebars, and seat. The fork had some rust on it - most of it came off with 2hrs and a fingernail. The larger chips are covered up by italian fan-boy electrical tape. Rust on the frame was dremeled off and touched up with automotive touch-up paint and clearcoat. I laced up a Phil Wood double fixed track hub and the salvaged dura-ace front hub to cxp33's. They have held up like champs. Dura-ace 16t cog. Replaced the dura-ace clip pedals with some cheap shimano spd's.

I learned a ton putting this thing together. Its an amazing ride.

Here's mine.
First one is my Kogswell fixie, 42x16, brooks, all that jazz.
Second one is my Specialized Rockhopper, 32x17, nothing special component wise. Sligltly bent right crank that I really really need to replace.

Fixie number two. Various names are floating about, Slingblade, Fixed-Shot, Single-Shot(thanks Slingshot for stealing my thunder). Anyway, using Mavic hubs with the rear being a freewheel. Fliped the axle and added a couple spacers to the front chainring and the chainline really came around. These hubs may be the smoothest I've ever felt including the Campy Records. Bike is very quick thanks to the 650c's.

Enjoy.

Where's the down tube? Or are my eyes screwey again.

bought it at a LBS, trophy bikes. its a 44T rocket ring, you can get it online at numerous places.

auk 11-20-03 11:26 AM

Nope your eyes are fine. Slingshots don't come with them. Instead they use a cable and spring. Their website tells the rest and the why.

Dave, your bike looks really interesting. Is there any special maintenance you need to do with that downtube cable? How does it ride? I checked out their website, their prices are pretty high, but the bikes sure look unconventional and appealing...

Auk.....I had no idea Slingshots were still available. I remember them back in the early 90's for their Mtb's.

SSer's and fixers-

All your bikes are so beautiful, it's really making me want to go fixed. Now I just have to convince the girlfriend...

Still available last that I checked. They have a pretty cool single speed called the single shot. They now also offer 700c versions. All are folders now. Mine is old enough to not be.

As for mine, it was part of a trade with a buddy of mine for a bunch of stuff that I had. He bught it used and never rode it much and he knew that I had been eyeing it for a couple of years to use as a TT bike. This summer terms were agreed upon and it was running around with an old Dura-Ace 8spd setup. It was after I built up my first fixed (the beast) that I started to eye the shot as the next victim.

The ride is different. Blindingly quick due to the 650c's and super comfy to ride. The cable really allows for the shock absorbing qualities. I may throw a big gear on it this coming summer and do a few TT's with it as a fixed.

No special maintenance that I'm aware of. It was a little noisy when I got it, but I found that the one of the little o-rings that isolate the pin that goes through the top clevis was gone and when I replaced them (pennies at the hardware store) it all got quite.

Prices are high, but watch ebay for them they usually go for not too much. I lucked out and have very little in it, as lots of swapping was done with the previous owner for the bike.
