Click the flickr link. I got the whole frame chromed and masked it myself. Then took to the local car spray joint and the did the paint for 60AUD (the price of painting it myslef almost). Just had to cut the tape out with a scalpel. The other stuff is all polished. See the DIY thread for my method.

Man - you did a SPECTACULAR job. That's a great conversion. My mouth is watering. How much did chroming the frame set you back?

re: the rensho, gtb, er and more...

i am fine after the crash. was racing w/friends on a bike path and collided with a chain meant to keep pedestrians and bikes separate. cut my leg pretty bad, no broken bones though.
and considering the 3rensho was broken, rusting in a basement, im glad its on the road again. its not 'true track' or whatever. i had ZRcycles build the fork, to spec. its not 'correct' but it is mine. i love the bike. there are plenty of full njs rensho what-have-yous. i dont race track, i like bright colors and straight forks. so i made it happen.

my sweetie:

1985 Pinarello Montello rebuild. Original Campy headset and cranks. Brooks Swift saddle, Brooks leather griptape, Nitto Time Trial bars, 3t Stem, American Classic seatpost, Alex Solo rims on Bianchi track hubs. Surly 20t cog, I forget who makes the freewheel. SPD pedals on it now, although i dont have any photos with that. Rides like a dream.

Ditta Custom Track Frame

Finally got my frame! It was handbuilt in San Francisco by Richie Ditta (messenger and sometime Zeitgeist doorman) who ran a small frame shop for a while.

I'm still in the process of installing the BB and headset so this is more a teaser shot until I get finished (note: obligatory SF shot in front of white garage door)

I'm so in love with this frame. Theres lots of photos here.

This bike started life as a Schwinn Le Tour. 1020 Steel, funky headset, the whole bit. I filed off all thee braze-ons and I reshaped the dropouts by chopping off and then filing and sanding what is usually a huge bulge at the back of them for a rack or fender mount. They are way ugly but they're gone. You can see what they looked like in the bottom picture at http://fixedgeargallery.com/2007/jan/JaredArter.htm

The wheelset is an old steel wheel set from a huffy of all things. Its in very good shape though. I redished and respaced the rear wheel while watching Dante's Peak one evening. That went MUCH better than I expected. I also rotafixed the cog and used a hammer and screwdriver to tighten the bottom bracket lockring over it. After it slipped while riding it, I retightened and it hasn't moved since but I don't skip or skid. Or go fast.

Paint job by 96 cent walmart paint :D
