You do realize that building a REALLY nice track bike costs about 2 grand if you pay retail for eveything? You know how much money "normal" people spend on their cars/guitars/watches/coke right? Someday when you all move out of your parents houses/squats and get jobs you'll figure out that bicycles are actually a relatively cheap addiction.
Dutret gets all cranky and worried about the 5bills somebody drops on a crazy wheelset, when there are thousands of fools out there who spend that on one 23" rim for their obnoxious truck.

I had probably 15k into a car I autocrossed/road-raced before it was stolen. Bikes are cheap in comparison as long as I don't start buying custom carbon fiber frames with Campy Record groups.

yo fool I'm from the trailer park.. I work my a$$ off for everything I got. nobody gave ****....well my mom did buy me a tits JMC black shadow when I was like 12 but......

I'm in college and a few friends of mine are about to graduate, both have job offers for at least 60k a year, i don't know about you, but if i get an offer like that when i graduate, you sure as hell bet i would spend ****tons on my bike. Living in Chicago, with roommates, rent less than 500 a month, no kids, a salary; having a nice bike, or car for that matter becomes very feasible. Most road cyclists ride around on 3k bikes anyway. Bikes are cheap compared to most things.

Hell, I could be added to the list simply because I have at least three bikes that are "expensive", but I definitely try to avoid thinking "OOOH, I GOTTA HAVE THAT" because I probably can't manage it and my previous bike was probably pretty ok.

i aint no trust fund neither. I just catch deals and wheelies if you know what i am saying. I have payed for or hustled for all my ****.
