New to Bikeforums, Fixed Gears, and Chicago...When I moved here, I knew I had to have a fixed gear so I started building this one. I love it so far, but it is still a work in progress. I plan to put a 700c fork and threadless headset on it soon, but the rims willl have to remain 26in until I get the money to build a set of 700c.

Sampson Titanium Mt Frame
Fixed gear with Shimano 15 tooth cog (I had to take the Surly 13 off...too much for a beginner)
White Industries Eccentric Eno Hub
White Industries Duo Freewheel with 17/44 or 18/42
Mavic 717 rim
Sugino 175 Crank with 42 and 44 chainwheels
Crank Bros. Mallet C Pedals

well, trials bikes sometimes have those because of the unusual stresses trials riding places on the headtube. i'm kinda doubting that this bike will be used in any trials-type riding, although i'd love to see it.

and i suppose that one might be able to make an aerodynamic argument that it reduces drag.

but i really don't know.

it will reduce drag but only marginally and if there's any wind i'm sure it makes a noticable difference.

looks badass though.

Isn't this that POS polish bike that pops up now and then?
If so the concensus was the gussets are purely decorative. The BB one is in the wrong orientation to provide and meaningfully stiffness and the HT gusset would only be useful if this was being ridden off road into large things.

The guy who builds them didn't seem to have much experience as a bike designer also.

…but at least something like this is less likely to happen:

Looks like an older wheelset, so maybe they are Hoshi bladed spokes. I recently built up a wheelset with Sapim CX-Ray Aero Bladed spokes if you are looking for a spoke that is currently in production.
