that's not a lens hood, its a photoshop vignette. point-and-shoots don't have lens hoods.

point is, though, who gives a ****. its his bike, he can take whatever kind of pictures he wants.

Here is my new bike that I just finished two days ago. Im SUPER happy with it and have just been riding it a ton! Pretty scared of riding without a brake, but its mostly going to be my beginner track bike. Anyway, enjoy, and let me know what you think.

Cheers,
Jonas

Looks good Jonas. If you are new to this I would just go ahead and put a brake on it.

agreed, i've heard so many stories from experienced fg riders about them or someone else getting hurt because they didnt have a brake, it'd be definitely a good idea to put a brake on, especially if you are a beginner.

Its on the agenda... Frame isn't drilled for a brake, so what do you all suggest? Is there one out there thats far superior to others?

crap i didnt realize that from the pictures. um i dont know anything about fitting track frames with brakes but maybe you could just drill the hole yourself through the fork.

I was just helping the person out by advising them to put a little more effort.

I didn't check the exif data, at first, for what cam was used, indeed it is a point and shoot.

jonas, i just got a track frame with an undrilled fork and i put a brake on it that clamps to the fork tubes. it's a dia-compe BRS-101. it works just fine, and you don't have to drill the fork! check out the pic of my bike a couple pages back. its the huge red fuji.

Warning: Stupid Question Being Asked!

One common thing I notice on all these nice bike builds, is no chain guard. Is this a purist thing, because I've ridden with out a chain guard using a velcro strap around my pants leg, and I still manage to get grease on my jeans.

You only need a chain guard if you're wearing noob cycling clothes like jeans.

I would keep your gearing low until you get one. As for the fork, you could get a new fork that is drilled and keep the original.

it would be more cost effective to get the clamp on brakes instead of a whole new fork.

Not necessarily. Old steel forks can be bought pretty cheap on eBay. I got mine for $21, which is a whole lot cheaper than a $75 clamp-on brake.

You may have gotten lucky, but finding a fork with low rake and a brake hole that fits your frame isn't too easy. Also, this way you can take the brake off easily if you want.

Also, don't forget that you'll either have to get the crown race pulled off your old fork and put on the new one or get your hands on another compatible race and use that. If you are not handy with tools, you may have to spring for labor at the LBS (although removing the race typically isn't very hard). If you don't plan on going back to the old fork it would still be much cheaper, but it's something to consider. Ask yourself how much you like your current fork and if the answer is "a lot" then just get the clamp on brake, but if you are more ambivalent just get a fork off ebay and save some cash. Like JellyMeetsJam mentioned, make sure the fork you get has a similar steerer length and rake.
