the fact that Cannondale has been selling the Capo with increasingly silly components doesn't mean that it's not a fine frame. It's the same frame that, a few years ago, they were selling rigged with full dura-ace as a serious track bike. Now it's being sold in a race to the bottom of the market. Surprising, yes, but the frame is well worthy of serious components.

isn't the geometry quite a bit more slack on the capo? completely different frame, iirc.

unless you think i'm talking about the old cannondale track frames with the steel forks, then yri. you recall incorrectly.

Cannondale Major Taylor: https://www.cannondale.com/bikes/04/cusa/model-4PRT.html
Cannondale Capo: https://www.cannondale.com/bikes/08/cusa/model-8PR1.html

same frame - CAAD5 track. same geometry, more sizes available in the Capo.

well i took a link outta my chain so my tensioner wasn't maxed out anymore. i put the chain back on with the wheel in the dropout, so im not even sure if i will be able to get the wheel off without braking the chain since the axle is so far into the dropout. also just barely clears the brake bridge with a 28c tire on there. chain is a little tighter than i would like but it needs to be that way so it wont rub.

that doesnt make sense. If you loosened your chain a bit it would give you more clearance from your bridge, not less. Loosen your chain or go buy a half link.

I had a similar issue & started looking for a half link. I feared going down in tire size because I'm a big dude. Then I switched to 23c Kevlar tires & which I had done so sooner. Higher psi, less rolling resistance, chain is looser which will add to drivetrain longevity, quieter drivetrain, etc.

In other words, try a smaller tire size.

no, loosening my chain would involve pushing the axle further forward, INTO the bridge. either way im picking up a half link tomorrow so i have some room to move the axle forward. gonna try one of the spare links from my TSC interlock chain first though...

the only reason im riding a 28 is because i nabbed it from the tire recycling at work as a new takeoff. season is really slowing down so theres rarely a good tire in the recycling now. next time i have to pay for a tire i will be going back down to the stock 23c size

and yes its a lot of seatpost, but thats compact geometry for ya. once i stumble on some money it will be replaced with a thompson 410, this ones too springy.

dropouts on this bike are **** by the way. by cinching down the nuts to stop the axle from sliding, i sandwiched the steel plates, thus smushing them to contour around the axle. after taking the wheel on/off a few times it spread those plates, which even spread the aluminum dropouts apart.

Hm... you said you took off a link though? Leaving the link on and loosening the chain and it still doesn't clear the bridge?

i removed a link. making the chain shorter. chain tension is adjusted by moving the rear axle forward or back in the dropouts, forwards makes for a looser chain, backwards makes it tighter.

moving it forward will push it closer to the brake bridge...
