1973 Raleigh Grand Prix SS
I finished building this bike a couple of weeks ago and it is my first venture into singlespeed cycling. The frame is the first real bike that I bought after college and my wife rode it on our honeymoon in it's original ten speed configuration. Three years ago, I stripped all of it's components to build up an eBay Raleigh Gran Sport frame. So this GP frame was hanging in the basement begging to be a singlespeed. Built with stuff from my parts bin, eBay and the LBS back room. Crankset is a 52-40 Suigno Maxy using the inner 40T ring. Since the outer 52T ring is not removable, I covered it's cogs with automobile door molding to act as a pant guard. The freewheel is 16T. I've ridden about thirty miles before the cold weather returned and the 40X16 gear feels about right for my age and the moderate hills here in the Fox River valley.
Don't really have a bike.

Preliminary Stage. I dub it "Fat Boy" cuz it eats so much (50mm tires and wanting more)
Btw I sold the IRO because this does the utilitarian thing a little better. I'll be adding more and changing bars later

Just finished a conversion. Had this old Univega kicking around, then I cracked the dropout. Used most of the parts as salvage on other bikes. Then a frame builder here in town told me he could fix it. Which you can see in the pic, the drive side dropout has no paint etc. Anyway, cranks are original. Wheels are mavic with formula hubs. Stock cranks, cheap pedals, original nitto technomic quill stem and nitto bars. Used a tektro cross lever and caliper I had lying around. The chain has been tightened, and I'm thinking about painting it black since that dropout is all jacked up anyway.
And here is my original conversion. Great schwinn frame. Got some comments about the bar tape in the What don't you like thread, so I fixed it, and added a TT lever.
