2008 Fixed Gear Fashion Predictions

Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

What's wrong with Malcolm Gladwell? I ask that earnestly, because I liked Tipping Point but know anything about him.

As best I know, Velocity doesn't make any carbon rims, and I don't think that they have any plans to. There are plenty of other makers of carbon rims, so why enter an already saturated and very small market?

nodding to imitation of christ's first season, designs based on human-spillage, demands for the heads of famous track racers and pricing schema cemented firmly in a disdain-based sliding scale will all make appearances in your local track boutiques.

I didnt bother to read the thread.

Fixed gear t-shirt labels.
Already happening, but its gonna go BOOM in 08.
A lot more of "street wear shop" bike builds.
07 was pretty bad, 08 is going to be disgusting...

not true. I had a carbon fork on my Pinarello when I was hit on it. it took a hit into a cab at about 15mph and it didn't break. also, im still talking about it because im a jerk.

+1 about vintage European bikes, I was thinking about putting the Dérailleurs on my PX-10 the other day, All though a coaster brake nexus hub+mustache bars are dam temping as well, or maybe roller/drums brakes, and a dyno hub, a very utilitarian style bike, Sheldon maybe a dork, but you cant really argue with the logic behind his rides

And mark my words cheap Carbon Tubulars are gona be huge it begins wait for a cheap carbon version of that, And CF Everything, seatposts stems, all that, and Loads of CF on old European bikes,

Similarly, I predict a resurgence of A'ME grips. And new "designer" number plates. Seriously.

Yeah. I got it from the library, and I read his stuff in The New Yorker (have fun with that, haters). He's a little too much of a blowhard for my taste, but he does sometimes tackle some interesting topics.

The dude gets paid in the neighborhood of $40k per speaking engagement according to this profile. That is just ****ing obscene.

...and then there's the hair.

Oh jeez, I don't know the name brand of some ****ty rapper's sunglasses. F*ck, I need to get my sh*t together!

It kind of disturbs me that anyone pays enough attention to that ****** to know what type of eyewear he sports.
