2008 Fixed Gear Fashion Predictions

Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

2008 Fixed Gear Fashion Predictions

Well, toptube protectors were 2006, kashimax was this year. As more and more college art dropouts ride conversions, there is bound to be new fashion next year.

Let's have at it, y'all!!

This actually requires skill, so maybe not, but notice the silly looking brake lever placement. Thats a sign that it could catch on.

That lever placement actually makes sense. The only real place you can grab a mUni while riding is in the front, near your crotch. Makes sense to put the brake lever there. </offtopic>

Kashimax is this year?

Yes, which is why I wrote "silly looking" instead of "suboptimal" or "functionless" or "idiotic". It is silly looking.

Definitely. I also think that someone is going to introduce a budget pseudo-aerodynamic wheel to capitalize on this trend.

Are you kidding? Those are both quality budget track wheels that are used at all levels of competition. They also pre-date the fixed gear trend by several years.

I was speaking more of a cheap, SE Asian Aerospoke.

Gotcha. Was half-serious.

I don't know why ryand is making fun of me. Usually I know it's in jest but a spreadsheet is a pretty logical way to control how much money is being spent on what. That's why I don't understand why it's so funny.

tubulars will still not be popular. actual track racing will still not be popular. talking s.hit about messengers will be acceptable. brakeless riding will be snubbed. freewheels will gain popularity.

oh, and hopefully people will finally let the blanket statement "hipster" die. at least go back to saying "scenester".

i completely agree. low quality mass-produced carbon fiber is just around the corner. they will be complete s.hit wheels with no advantages over anything except looking totally rad.

hopefully they'll at least get the design aspect right so they do in fact look totally rad. there's nothing worse than a crappy looking crappy wheel.

No, I'm serious. Are you a chem. major.

Chemists LOVE Excel. I hate Excel.

Excel made me drop out of Biology and get into web development.

I'm much happier now.
