Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? skanking - on Old Sauk (lived toward the end of that road for the 1st 12 yrs of my life) you are not even close to the big/steep hills. - OK, you are close to some - Cleveland is 15+% and 500 meters long which is 2 miles from the end of OS. Also, if you take a right at the end of OS (heading toward Cleveland) you go down a ball-buster that's harder than anything on O.S.

I could show you 20+ hills that are waay tougher than anything on O.S.

Is that considered part of the City of Madison? That's a constant debate between my wife and I. But yeah... the hills along Timber Lane are a byatch and a half.

I 2nd the drunks during gameday/highschool tournaments. Everyone who goes to madison is chill as hell. Its the out of state jackasses who go to madison and buy into the whole "whoo #1 ranked party college, gotta get drunk to represent whoooo"

The whole point of representing madison is to drink and still function....not drink and act like a jerky *****...

Lacrosse used to be in the Guinness book of world records for most bars per capita - something like a jillion bars in a 1 mile stretch of road somewhere there.

I once got stuck heading south on Franklin Ave from University to Speedway. That was torture, although not as long of a climb as Old Sauk.

"are those live strong bracelets as hub shiners?"

You guessed it! I couldn't resist the added yellow.

And, my home in the States is now Austin, TX.

I moved out of Madison about 5 months ago. Yellow Jersey is my favorite shop, and they've never sold me a single thing that I didn't need. Go to Tim. He's an excellent mechanic. I also frequented Revolution because I got my bike there and know most of the dudes.

I love Madison! Fixies are good there coz it's flat.

The hippie that owns Yellow Jersey Cycles on State St. is a tool, however...place has been around 4 ever.

That is the hill I am talking about, around where Old Sauk curves into Old Middleton--Its the two hump monster by the school.

That said, I killed my legs doing a metric century last summary in Green Lake county. You want to talk about some hills .... I think I ruined a pair of brake pads in one day.

He can be grumpy. But he knows a load about old bikes. I've had mostly pleasant interactions with him and the shop.

I lived in Madison for most of my life. Got the hell out. Used to ride a black Miyata 914 conversion back in 04/05 and a few SS mountain bikes before that. I miss winter commuting.

I could tell some stories about what an A-hole Andy from YJ is or was... He used to be into cola and the other owner (chick) was an alcoholic - a good combination. Back when I had a Fisher Procaliber, he would not let me use the HS wrench (oversized, so I did not own one) w/o charging me - I wanted to adjust my HS - which would take about 20 seconds. There are other stories that I'm too lazy to type up here. I know a guy he pissed off & that the person took a dump in his car seat as a gift. He does know a F-load about old campy though.
