alien lugged frame
 

all this talk about alien crankset, wheels, hubs and reviews from the fixed gear gallery guys, so i finally checked their website. most of it looks like deja-vu rehash of cheap taiwan made gear...but the frame looks kinda interesting. Fork & frameset of lugged steel, flat lugged fork, tight track geometry (still waiting for specs to come out) and your choice from a 15 color palette for powdercoating for $399 + $50 for powdercoating. The lugs aren't the prettiest, but seems like a decent price. There's not much info on the website...but it's coming out the same time the new kilo tt's are. For some more skrills outta your back pocket you can get a lugged frame and your choice of color.

anyone know anything about them? when i used the search, i couldnt' find much about their frames. i did find this thread of a buncha sketched out people who were scared to order from them because they thought it migth be a fake company

I'd rather buy the cheaper Kilo TT Pro on account of the tubing is a lot better.

Besides, I already have a nice NJS lugged machine with better tubing than 4130!

In Alien's defense, though, I'm glad someone finally got the idea to do a mass produced lugged track frame because that's what a lot of the kids want.

nothing wrong with 4130, especially if double-butted. Thats basically Reynolds 530 by a different name.

And yeah, I know it. But 4130 can vary depending on what source it's from too. I own a KHS track, it's Reynolds 520 and quite bomb proof. I'm excited to upgrade to the Kilo Pro but it's still great tubing and pretty worry free. I just don't know about paying 400 for a 4130 frame...

I wonder if those are the same hubs with a different name as the Harris Cyclery/ IRO hubs. And this is only because I am thinking of taking the plunge and building my first wheel (with donor rim) and Alien's hubs look cool fo' sho'.

What a ******** way to describe what it already a poorly thought out frame. How about providing a geometry chart instead of this crap.

no, they are the same as the nashbar hubs, though. nashbar's are cheaper and threaded on both sides

FWIW I write Alien earlier in the week asking about the availability of their hubs in Europe. They never got back to me. Quite strange for a company based in Norway.....

i've written them with questions, too and they never wrote me back either! I won't be shopping with them anymore (I just bought a crank set) because there's so many good customer service options out there.

What surprised me most about their lack of response was this from their website which states they are rather quick in getting back to you. :rolleyes:

I sent them an e-mail a while back about the geometry for a 53 and got a response. I'll dig the e-mail out later and post the numbers.

That said, I'm waiting on the new Kilo tt myself.

"The frame with a 53 c-c seat tube has a 55cm top tube. 74.5 head
angle, 75 seat angle, 28mm rake, 40cm chainstay, 55mm bb drop. Stand-
over about 80cm, but that has to be confirmed."

People keep talking about the "new" Kilo TT, I cant find the specs anywhere on the bikesisland site or bikesdirect. Someone want to clue in a clueless dude?

Did you look at the Mercier site?

Yeah, it's the same everything as the regular Kilo TT, just made with TrueTemper OX Platinum tubing instead of 4130. The price for the frame and fork is going to be around $250 delivered, as per this post.
