Capo or Fillmore

Im a first time fixie rider, first time road bike rider at that, and ive been looking at the Capo for a little while now, i went down to the shop today and they didnt have the black capo that i wanted in my size, they did have the white and red one. if i wanted the black one, id have to wait until the end of january to get one. they did however, have a very nice new LeMond Fillmore that was my size that i could get today that they have on hold for me. So my question is, do i wait until January to get the capo, or get the LeMond today? i like the capo because ive heard good things about it, and its very pretty and looks fast. the LeMond is a very cool bike as well, but it doesnt look like it can go up and down curbs and go through the streets like the capo can. what are your suggestions?

jet sanchEz 12-20-07 05:22 PM

I'd suggest riding them both. Just because the Capo "looks fast" doesn't mean ****. Are you sure you want to drop that much coin on something you are so unfamiliar with?

Benthedude 12-20-07 05:28 PM

yeah, i am, i think im just gunna wait, i was just down at the shop and rode both of them, i didnt really feel a difference, the guy was telling me that the steel frame on the Fillmore is better that aluminum. but i didnt feel a difference, my question is, it there any reason you think i should get the fillmore because theres something wrong with the capo?

tjayk 12-20-07 06:09 PM

i think the capo looks awesome in red, and i really want one. that being said, i think you should get a steel ride for abuse on the streets - it will most likely handle more of it. i just don't think hopping a lot of curbs w/an aluminum track frame sounds wise.

If you rode them both and couldn't tell the difference, get the cheaper one.

steel v. aluminum is a personal preference thing, and people are going to tell you a lot of differing opinions on the matter. if you can't feel a ride difference, and the specs are comparable, then go for aesthetics and/or cost. personally i like the cannondale.

Cdales are so in

Maybe someone with more experience will correct me on this but i think the Capo is a better bet based on more of a "road bike" setup vs. the fillmore being more a "track bias". I would think the Capo would be a better fit for a newbie.....and I agree.....wait for the black capo. the red one looks cool but looking at it reminds me of those high knee socks you'd see basketball players wearing back in the mid 70's.

The Fillmore is basically a single-speed road bike with track ends. Very comfortable, but the newer frames are of a bit lower spec than the older ones. Great ride, though -- really enjoyable for long distances. Lemonds have longer top tubes, so if you're more torso/arms than legs it'll fit better as well. Neither bike is particularly "trackish" for geometry, the Lemond in particular being quite laid back.

Benthedude 12-20-07 09:25 PM

well i like the sportyness of the cannondale, yet i like the laidbackness of the lemond. arg

Id avoid the capo cause its aluminum personally. Long live the Sputnik!

I think the fillmore would be a good bike though.

Have to agree...there's a reason C'dales are coined "Crack-n-fail". I just don't dig AL. Go with the steel bike.

snortCRANK 12-21-07 01:19 PM

the fillmore looks sweet, but you are going to pay the lance tax

is aluminum that bad? I've been looking into getting the capo...

Only in SSFG is aluminum still considered an exotic material. Cannondale makes very good aluminum frames, and their newer frames are actually fairly comfortable. I would not let it put you off the bike.

Aluminum VS. Steel.... GO!

For reals though. Get the bike that's the most comfortable. There are advantages/advantages to both steel and aluminum. Steel can be bent, but can rust. Aluminum can't really bend, but will not rust. Neither will get respect from someone in a car.

Cannondales are coined "Crack-n-fail" because reps from other companies were worried about Cannondale's rapidly advancing aluminum frames and it was easy to spread the idea of a few aluminum failures being the start of a gigantic death wave of frames cracking like eggs and thus told customers the same which made the customers think this and repeat it to friends who spout it on internet forums as if their non-science major gives them a owner's share in the knowledge of bicycle frame engineering even though Cannondale's a HUGELY established brand today with frame testing specifications far greater than 99% of other frame makers.

that what i thought, Capo TIEMZ errebudy

Uh...had two C'dales...both cracked and failed (at the bottom bracket to seat tube weld if you are interested)...but I'm sure you're right....I'm just a know-it-all dumbass with a big mouth and little brain spouting off crap that I heard.

Aluminum fatigues and cracks much sooner than steel. Carbon is lovely until it fails...I'll stick with my steel bikes and you can kiss my ass.

+1

Sorry it was just too easy.

conor 12-21-07 09:17 PM

don't cannondale's have a lifetime warrenty on their frames?

Benthedude 12-21-07 09:38 PM

i got the lemond, i realized after hours of debate and doubt that i just want a laid back bike, im not gunna be doing any racing or any stuff like that so oh well. im happy wth it cause its a sick laid back looking bike that i can start to trick out.

paying more for trek shiz that is lower quality than other companies just because Lance rode for them. I swear my friend just bought a lemond because it "looks cool."

Morgie 12-22-07 10:15 AM

^ dude lemonds do not have a "lance" tax, that is total BS.
