Pista Bottom Bracket Size.
I tried searching, but couldn't find anything of substance.
What size is the bb on a Bianchi Pista (07)? I hosed my drive-side crank and want to dump the isis bb and go with a square taper and new cranks. Also, what do you guys recommend as a good replacement (will get track use as well as some distance/fun rides). |
Just to clarify, are you asking for the BB shell size or the length of the BB spindle? The shell should be a standard english BB ( all you really need to know). As for the spindle length, my fuji uses a 103 mm square taper. Hope this helps.

You need a 68 x 109mm length BB. I have an 07 Pista and that is the size I just installed.

I am assuming it is English 68x??? wouldn't the wrong spindle length throw off my chainline?

The spindle length is entirely dependant on what type of crank you're using. Since you're replacing the cranks with mystery cranks, no one here can tell you what length spindle you should use.
It will be between 102-111mm, most likely. |
Get some Sugino 75 cranks and a superlap BB. They work great on my Pista.

No, see that doesn't help you unless you buy Sugino 75's. Tell us what cranks you're buying and we can help you. Do not buy a 109mm BB and expect it to work with RD's or DA cranks or Stronglights.
|
How about this, just post your Pista crank and bb combos. Will probably be easier and a good reference in the future.

Probably just something cheap like bulletproof. I'm not too concerned about weight/bling, I just want something to replace my busted up crank and wonky bb. So, say I get a set of bulletproof, what bb should I get?
It's really just trial and error. |
Sugino 75 crank and bb and chainring = sexy pista.

bulletproofs are doubles, and with a 107mm bb, will run a 47.1 chain line on the outside, 39.7 on the inside. neither of these are a really good chain line for standard track spacing, which usually leaves the rear at 42, though i don't think being off by 2mm (from the inner) will be a big deal if you have a tight chain. in general though--and this is just my preference--i'd stay away from bulletproofs for its q-factor, though many people have run bulletproofs just fine. |

don't quote me on this, but you're probably running at 68x107. at least that's how pistas in the past have been. if in doubt, bring it to any LBS and they can usually run a measurement for you free of charge, and if you're nice.

cool, thanks! I have until spring for this project (my bike is tucked away in storage for winter), so I am just starting to look at options, maybe I will hold off and go for a true track crank.. and actually pull my bike out an measure before I do anything.

Almost a couple decades late here... but, do the values discussed here apply also to the Pista Concept, or just the Pista? I've got a Concept 2006 in need of a new BB!

If you are keeping the same cranks take out the old B.B. and measure that or look at the measurements printed on it and get one of that exact same size. Don't worry about what the internet back 18 years ago said, measure twice or have your shop measure and they can get you the correct B.B. (and also help install it if you don't have the skills or tools) |
