I am sick of getting holes in the ass of my pants.
Really, I am. I am tired of it. I don't like the fact that I wear out the ass of my pants in several months. So, I was looking to see if there are any cycling specific pants out there. You know, possibly reinforced in that area. So far the only options I can come up with are hypnotic designs and chrome. Not to say these are bad, but was wondering if anyone knew of any other options.

Army fatigues have a reinforced ass, however a problem I have discovered is that if you have a wallet in the rear pocket it will rub against the ass of the pants when you ride and wear a hole in it pretty quickly.
So if you don't keep your wallet in your rear pocket they might be a good choice.

I have a pair of jeans that were perfect in every way -- and were on pace to stay that way for a long time -- until they were destroyed by my bike saddle. I almost quit.
While I'm sure they're salvageable, I'm now committed to reinforcing the next pair. Which I think should be a fairly straight-forward DIY project. Take an old scrap of denim from the last pair of pants destroyed, and sew it on the inside of the crotch of your new pair. Just a though experiment, but I'm sure it would help.

I think this had been discussed recently, lots of different pants were brought up, for some reason only the chrome messenger pants are the only ones I remember. By the end of the discussion, it seemed like for the money it was more efficient to just keep buying dickies, and wear 'em out.

It might be your saddle and not your pants. I had a very broken in pair of jeans that I rode in for 2 years until I got the white perforated rolls off nashbar. A few weeks later my wife is laughing at my arse hanging out of my jeans.

My second pair of Carharts is right on the verge of blowing out. I'm thinking maybe I should take them somewhere and get them fixed. Not sure where to take them though. And I don't feel like sewing them by hand...

You totally have to sew them by hand. Make them into cutoffs and use the end of the leg to make a nice ass patch on both the inside and outside of the hole.
And then do it again when they start to wear out around the edges.
Eventually you end up with really thick hot pants, which drive the ladies wild.

I'm curious as to why the pants are getting shot - do you do 50 mile rides daily in jeans? If you're just cruisiing around town, commuting, etc, I can't see how the pants get killed.
