who makes a...
steel, chromefork that will fit the aesthetic/geometry of a classic french track bike and has a brake hole drilled. no unicrowns please. i am having a hard time finding one and i'd rather not have a custom fork built due to the cost involved.
any recommendations? |
I had similar woes. I just went a with a Zeus pista fork off of ebay. Real lucky find too i havent seen one on there since.
|
tell me about it. i dont want to drill the fork i have since its original but all i can find are the usual suspects, surly soma etc. i dont even really know what brand the frame is. i bought it off ebay from some one in ireland.
he told me it is a "meca cycle turbo" french, 1981ish. it was too weird to pass up. the seat post functions the same way a quill stem does with no external collar/binder and the seat tube is forked which allows the rear wheel to be tucked up inside a short wheel base. campy track ends and fork ends i think it has vitus tubing. it is fun to ride but i'd ride it more if i had a brake for oopsies. while i am at it, has anybody ever heard of this bike company before? i'd like to know more of their history as well. |
pictures? sounds cool.

unfortunately i dont have any handy, i'll have to take some pics when i get home tonight.

8 posts in 2.5 years. You sir, are the definition of lurker. :)

You could just get one of those Keirin brake calipers that dont require drilling. Theres one in Chicago on CL.
http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/bik/523145103.html If hes sold his you can probably work with one of the members here who are located in Japan and see if theyll help you out. .... Oh and about my Zeus fork. Uhm Zeus is a old school company. They existed i think 70s-80s they were part of the Campy clones. Pretty hard to find desired items. They alwasy get snatched up. Im still on the hunt for pista cranks and a track BB but with French threads. |

At the bottom of the page look at the 'dimension high tensile' forks. I'm not sure if it fits the "french aesthetic" but it's lugged and cheap and it's been good to me so far. |
You know what, they're black now. It says chrome plated steel, but it must be black chrome. Sorry for the confusion, I got one there last year and they were chromed.
