help me convert my Raleigh Technium to a [SS]

I recently bought a mid 80's 12-speed Raleigh Technium 420 for $45. I've removed everything except the cranks. I want to convert it to a singlespeed. I'm gonna buy Shimano Sora brakes and brake levers. I'll keep the Sakae dropbars. The crankset is also Sakae. I know nothing about what common chainring size people use, chain and freewheel. I'm gonna have the [LBS] put it together for me. Unless you think I can do it with the right tools. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

If you like to get your hands dirty, I would recommend you get a set of basic tools like this
http://bikeisland.com/cgi-bin/BKTK_S...ils&ProdID=556, a bottle of simple green, and a tube of grease, and learn to do it yourself. I's really not hard, but you will still want to pay a few bucks to get your lbs to check your work the first time. It's a lot of fun and the tools will pay for themselves with the conversion and a year's maintenance.

If you don't have the time of the inclination, nothing wrong with that, just take it to the lbs, tell them what you want and have fun riding your new bike.
