maybe the title of this thread should be changed to "I'm a Sucka"! * smirks, then turns around to bro's for a round of high fives*

Am I the only one who considers this an attempt at trolling?

No, the pedals you were using just sucked. Proper pedals for use with clips have a "pick up tab" on the rear of the pedal that makes getting into them easy - it takes two seconds.

Just commit damn it and get a set of clipless pedals and don't give up so easily. if your just posing then who cares but if you really want become efficient and connected to your ride then learn to ride clipless it makes a difference, and when you get good you can still trackstand and skid.

Pedal efficiency isn't that key for 2 mile rides to get groceries and beer, bud.

Coming from a guy that loves clipless to death.

no. the merits of clipless/clips have been done and compared to death.
as have the demerits of platforms. obvious troll.

ditto !

Judge_Posner 01-10-08 10:46 PM

are powerstraps easier to get into than clips/straps, or harder?

Suttree 01-10-08 10:47 PM

I find them easier but less effective than clips and
clips less effective than clipless. I don't like powerstraps
that much.

Straws 01-10-08 10:49 PM

do we have two of the same thread going on at once?

just use clipless. I got a pair yesterday and I'm already in love

though to say that clips and straps is a total hipster thing is stupid. they're seriously quite useful when just running to the store

i don't care man. it's whatever. ride what you want to.

kemmer 01-11-08 02:01 AM

I ran clips and straps for a while because my cranks were french and my clipless pedals wouldn't fit. I'm back to clipless on all my "real" bikes now, and I either have to change shoes or ride my tall bike or swing bike. I've started riding the bike I built for my wife because of the platforms. :o

mugatu 01-11-08 02:44 AM

from this point forward, all bikes equipped with clips must be posted in the jackass thread, because it's difficult for this guy to use his feet

There's a bit of truth behind every stereotype.

Pedals, in general are for suckas, I just ride/rock bare spindles, in flip-flops, year round, on my converted Cervello with arrospok, risers, arrobar. It's all about style.

Made me think of these http://www.freejumpsystem.com/etrier.php5?language=en Clipless on horseback.

I was originally a lot more comfortable in platforms as well....before I knew what I was doing.

HA. that made my day sir. Thank you, now I can go sit through 2 back to back geography classes without killing myself.
Really, its a preference issue. I like clips because, well, they are cheap, and I live in a small town where grocery runs etc. are the things I use my bike for...general transportation.

Gyeswho 01-11-08 11:53 AM

it took me a while get coordinated with clips as well. just practice and you'll eventually get the hang of it

Nouia 01-11-08 12:04 PM

I recently switched from clips to clipless (SPDs) and I have to say I'm sick of falling down and screwing up my knees whenever I have to stop unexpectedly. I'm sticking those pedals on my MTB and putting the clips and straps back on the fixie.

They're fantastic for recreational, non-traffic riding though. They totally change the way you ride for the better. They just not that good for a heavy-traffic commuter bike.

bonechilling 01-11-08 12:11 PM

**** toe clips, pedals, and cranks. Get one of these:

Sure they are. Just takes practice, like anything else.

stachemaster 01-11-08 12:14 PM

they let you skid on the track out there? its always a no-no out here. or is that the infamous hooligans' skidding velodrome?

That kid on the pink bike is total hipster. You just know when he/she get off those training wheels they'll be popping leg over bar backwards circle barspin skids on the way to buy a new handlebar brace pad. OH THE YOUTH OF TODAY.

Edit: Also the kid with no pedals is winning

Suttree 01-11-08 07:40 PM

Going in the opposite direction of the OP--
just put Time ATACs on my bike. Decent float
with the 13 degree setting.

Seriously dude, people are making fun of you because this flies in the face of received
wisdom. Not just people on this board, but generations of cyclists. [excised rest of rant, not
worth it]

dude speaking of, my soma toe clips I ordered december 15th just came in like 20 minutes ago. I am going to replace my bent pedals tonight and put them on my bike

did you get the quad gate clips? I LURV mine, though my mom bought me the Large for christmas and it's noticeably too large. I can deal with it, but for now I'm loving my Candy C's.

c0urt 01-12-08 02:44 AM

double gates :-)
the quads were over kill for me plus i plan on running them in my cheap nylon straps. and really tiny pedals
