Chainline question
 

I found a 165mm road crank for a cheap price, and I was wondering if it's possible to find out what the chainline measurement would be for any given bb width just by having the crank on hand. Is there any measurement I can take of the crank that will give me this information?

remember, on some chainrings you can bolt the chainring to either the inside or outside edge of the spider.
Those placements may be about 4mm by my estimate, and can sometimes be an easy solution to a chainline problem.

Not really. Best beat is to mount it on a bottom bracket of know dimension, measure and go from there.

Just throw on whatever BB and you'll have all the data you need to correct it to the right chainline.

It will give you a bb length and chain line. Just remember that the chain line is to the center of a road double. Calculate from there.

isnt the norm for track wheels a 42mm chainline?
that might help, look at the cranks to see what BB lengths give you a 42mm chainline.
