Cyclists Back Obama

He's pro-fixed gear (according to the banner atop the article).

I think the presidential poll has already shown that at least the ssfg forum supports obama.

And evolution is only a theory.

I forgot to queue the dumb response to my middle-name for Paul.

No *****, you smart-ass; it's a theory in the sense that the past can't be exhibited like the results of an experiment. The point is that he doesn't believe in evolution (or lacks the honesty to admit it and lose out on votes). Saying "it's just a theory" is the textbook way to appease creationists while letting reasonable people think that he may find the theory credible.

So do many other Americans, but its not like we can change their minds easily. Attacking character flaws isn't a reason to lose sight of what is really going on.

I will back Obama if he changes his foreign policy.

Otherwise we are going to see imperialism pop out its ugly head again.

How is the persistent resistance and antagonism towards science and reason a "character flaw", especially in light of him being a physician?

Apparently I am now an unreasonable person.
No, just a smart-ass; also, it seems, not so good at reading comprehension (where did I call you unreasonable?).

Attacking character flaws isn't a reason to lose sight of what is really going on.
It sucks to hear so many reasonable Americans regurgitating the themes fed by the candidates.

You know theory is the highest level in scientific method right? Pretty much the best you can do.

It always bugs me when people says "just" or "only" a theory. Because theory is king in science.

Exactly. So many people confuse the colloquial "theory" with the scientific "theory." They're different. A theory is better than a law, in science.

Regardless, this thread sucks and should be locked down before it spirals out of control.

Ok. But would you at least read the article. When you finish reading the article; decide whether or not Obama will spend a lot of his time trying to be a "Politician" and trying to appease the "antagonists of science" by continuing with American Terrorism in the middle east.

So um-- yeah-- about cycling? I didn't mean for this to become a candidate pissing war. I was just passing along a fun cycling related article. Did anyone even read the article?

"It always bugs me when people says "just" or "only" a theory. Because theory is king in science."

Well said. It's not just king in science, but in all thought based on reason. No one can know a truth absolutely, but knowing that Ron Paul is foolish comes pretty close.

Anytime anyone busts out the "its only a theory line"

I remind them about the Theory of Gravity. (Yes I know there is also a Law of Gravity as well)

The article was okay and another notch in Barak's column for me, but I think I enjoyed the video of Edwards riding around on the hoods of his super aero carbon road bike at a a modest pace with Lance even more.

Only it's different, because the theroy of gravity could conceivably be disproven, wheras evolution can't be.

Evolution is tautalogical: That which survives, survives. I'm certainly no creationist, but i think that it's probably wise to question some interpretations and expansions of that.

Right, I think accepting anything without first using a critical eye is dangerous.
