Brake cable stretch?

I was out riding last night and I think my brake cable stretched out a little bit... Am I imagining things? If that's the case what do I do to stop it? Get a brake cable made of something else?? thanks.

If the cable is new, it is normal... just re-adjust and you'll be fine. It could also be that it has slipped a little through the pinch bolt. Again, just readjust and make sure you tighten it well. If it is an ongoing problem, check the cable over to be sure it is not frayed or breaking at any point... Braking = good. Breaking = bad

Cables don't stretch all at one time. The OP seems to describe it this way. I would guess it takes a lot of pulls on the brake (typically over a few days or weeks) to stretch them so that you could notice. I would bet the farm on the cable slipping in the anchor bolt.
