ugly bike
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...c/CIMG0933.jpg
Here is my ugly, dumb, trashy bike. If it was fixed gear I'd submit it to the gallery so you guys could tell me what a jackass I am. It started out as a 1988 14 speed red/pink/cream specialized sirrus. Now its a 1988 single speed el chupacabra with a green frame and blue/glow in the dark forks. The top tube pad was made out of electrical tape and some packing foam that my other bike was shipped with. This bike sucks in several ways but I still love it. Anyone else sporting a bike as trashy as this one? edit: It also uses the long chainring bolts with the nuts turned backwards to keep the chainring from rattling around. |
Looks like a decent bike.

Wow guys. Now I just feel bad for calling it ugly. I think I may be like an emotionally abusive husband to this bike.

A Specialized Sirrus is way way way way better than half of the bikes posted in the stickied Fixed/SS photo thread. Roll though that thread and then the Jackass of the Day thread and you will realize that this bike is far from ugly.

Yeah, I think I've been around to many matching colored bikes with deep v rims and powder coated frames lately. I'm hoping that stuff goes out of style soon. When I see a bike thats not a little messed up I always feel like its owner doesn't ride it hard enough.
I definitely don't think this is a terrible hobo bike. Its just that when you ride through a group of too sexy bikes its sort of strange. Whatever happened to the well functioning yet not sexy bike trend? The bike has a top tube pad because one of the brake cable holders is broken and sharp. I don't have anything to cut it off with. What do people use, start with a hacksaw and finish with sandpaper? |

heres my beater.
Its a late 70's frame, basically stock plus a wheelset, though the cranks will be gone soon. http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b3...aph/mybike.jpg you got a beauty of a bike there man, dont beat yourself up over it if you get to ride it and you dig it. P.S. the brake fell off mine the other day because the brake bolt I have came loose and fired off mid ride, so I have a handle but no caliper at the moment. :p |
I've got some sweet Chupacabras shirts from soccer/softball teams I played on. You should rock one at all times.

You guys have some ****ing nice beaters. Where's the rust? Where are the frame dents? Where are the "classic" center pull brakes?

haha, a couple friends and I always call windowless vans "chimo vans" Dude for real. Is that thing seriously a chimo? I've never heard of those? |
The shocking thing about all these bikes is that they all have brakes. Dear lord!
|
Speaking of "Where's the rust? Where are the frame dents? Where are the "classic" center pull brakes?"
When I got her. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2310/...7e6db4.jpg?v=0 Now. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2238/...be3db546d0.jpg Oh she doesn't have dents, though. I love this thread. This is not a bike porn, but not necessarily a jackass thread neither. Ugly, but lovable. |
It might look like it's trying to be flashy, but don't believe it. This bike is a parody more than anything else, usually gets referred to as the 'clown bike'. I assure you it's covered in a mixture of rust, salt and dirt. Hell, one of my toeclips snapped off yesterday cause it was so rusty.

I'm still working on my beater bike. Have a 1970 Raleigh Record that I'm going to convert.
My Beater |
I see your rust
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...c/CIMG0980.jpg and raise you 5 backwards long chainring bolts/nuts. http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j2...c/CIMG0984.jpg |
Haha, my whip is currently covered in road grime from riding in the snow. Oh well, she gets the job done. That old cottered crank should be gone in a week or two. I dig all these bikes.
|
So far, I like shasta's bike the most, with curiousincident's a close second. Both are actually very nice bicycles, desirable and fun to ride, apparently.

and raise you 5 backwards long chainring bolts/nuts. Oh man, too bad I just wiped my bike down after about a week of sloppy weather riding, otherwise I'd have taken a picture. Oh well, I'll give it a couple more days. |
