Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Whoops, put this in the other college thread.

Academy of Art University San Francisco as an adviser and soon to be ESL tutor, probably will take a complimentary free class this summer.

Ha, the same thing happens at OU whenever an OSU football game is on. No one gives a **** about our own sports but everyone goes ape**** over OSU.

Emory '08: English, Environmental Studies (Ecology)

I never recommend getting an undergrad in only 3 years.

We have a few fixed riders around...or me and three grad students at least.

I'm trying to fight against the "falling in-line" mentality.
At one point, 20% of all students at UCSC were Individualized Majors. Now, it's only 1%. The school discourages it, just as they limit how many classes you can take pass/no pass. I was a proposed Community Studies Major, but I've almost got my stuff together where they won't be able to say no to the Individualized Major I'm creating.

I GO TO WASHTENAW COMMUNITY COLLEGE.. well, actually I go to Pioneer High School in Ann Arbor Michigan, but I'm taking a computerized machining class at WCC, so I guess I count as a college kid.

Actual college is next year for me, I've been accepted to:
University of Michigan - School of Engineering
California Polytechnic (San Luis Obispo)
Michigan Tech

And deferred from MIT, rejected from Cooper Union, and still waiting on U Wisconsin.

^ Cal Poly or WCC? Cal Poly is really attractive to me because of the location (plus it's ranked as the third best mechanical engineering non-doctoral school in the nation).. biking year round without getting damaging my lungs would be nice. I still have to visit though. Growing up in Ann Arbor has been great, and UMich is wonderful, but I might just have to get away.

Mississippi State, the other other MSU.

I've been commuting fixed for about two years. Was easier to trash the old drivetrain with its stem shifters when things went bad and I have been hooked ever since. Most recently this year a lot of fixies have been popping up and the LBS is actually carrying some fixed components. We have a night ride just about every Thursday night were the majority of the bikes are fixed one way or another.

I'm graduating from Cal Poly in June, finished in 3 years. If you have any questions shoot me a pm.

There's actually going to be a race in EL that same night . I'll have to try to talk them into doing it earlier so the hardcore riders can make both...

I don't know how I'll get over to Detroit, but where there's a will there's a way. Too bad I don't know crap about the layout of Lansing or Detroit.

anyways, let's not hijack the thread and take the discussion here:

I grew up in Jacksonville. My mom wanted me to go to SCAD really bad, but the west-coast was a-callin'!
I love Savannah. I used to visit a friend on weekends that went to SCAD. Actually, being in the art scene in Jacksonville, I probably had a dozen friends that went to SCAD.
I never brought my bike up there with me, but I'll bet it's great to bike in. How is it biking on cobblestones?
