Single piece handlebar stem combo?
I saw a picture of Squid in the one of the latest Bicycling magazines. He was trackstanding for the shot. But I noticed something different about his bars. The bar and stem is one piece into the headtube.
I couldn't find that pic from the mag online, but here's his Swobo bike with the same handlebars. http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...oristicker.jpg Who sells these? Or are they just a personal creation? |
johnny cycles in wisconsin makes 'em.

I like that his handlebar setup is worth about 11ty times more than that **** Swobo frame
Haha, I think the frame probably cost him about 50 dollars more than the bar setup, and now that frame looks trashed. Classy.
Thanks for the response. I thought the Swobo looked like a solid frame for hard use in the city.
Those bars are wicked expensive. The other stems on that site are gorgeous though. |
jonny cycles stems are sooo inexpensive. im gonna order a mess bag full.
many independent framebuilders including sacha white have built one-piece brazed or lugged combos like that, also. they're all pretty expensive.
That headset is huge! Those bars are cool and all, but way too long for my taste.
i think its way too expensive.... does it hard to make? it looks simple >.< but idk anything about it tho haha
those were custom made for squid and given to him as a gift from jonny at the chicago/kenosha velocity race last summer.

rae, i know some people who've made them at home, so it's definitely doable and not especially difficult. it just depends on whether you can cut and weld the tubing.
