Sugino 75
and the BB for $200.
Should I? |
sure, why not? money does grow on trees nowadays, right?
seriously though, seems like a good, not great, price based on the current market. |
Yeah, it's either that, or save up a little more, buy some DA hubs, and build new wheels.
|
^^^ That.
|
crank arms and bb?
|
What about a chainring?
|
i don't even understand the thread
are u saying u can get the sugino 75 cranks + bb for 200$? |
what bb, is it the matching sugino 75?
if so go for it |
If that includes a ring do it, if not.. I wouldn't.

Wait till the DiaCompe NJS hubs get on the market and get those. |
i think that either way you're doing your bike a favor.
|
The guy just emailed me back and said it's a Shimano BB. It does come with the 75 chainring. So it's the cranks, a Shimano BB, and the 75 chainring for $200.
|
No deal. Shimano BBs are cheap and aren't even the right taper for 75s.
|
no deal
why would you pay 175$ for a set of cranks and then put them on a cheaper bb to save 50$ |
Definetly not that good of a deal. I have seen sugino cranks go for much cheaper on ebay.

While the whole taper thing is debatable, it's pure ignorance to claim Shimano BB are cheap. Assuming we're talking UN5X or 7X series, these are some of the most dependable brackets out there. Of course they don't score hipster mileage points, but hipster points can't be traded in for maintenance either. Actual, the taper issue shows ignorance. The angle of the taper is the same regardless of whether it is ISO or JIS. The point in question is the length of engagement. |
dident say they where cheap, don't get me wrong, shimano makes great bb
but i would get the bb made specifically for those cranks |

Not an excellent deal but I'd personally do it. |

I must have misread this
Define a bottom bracket made specifically for the crank. Assuming the bracket give the proper chainline, how is it any better or worse? i guess you did misread, since im not the one who said it :) same chainline, same taper, same quality sugino 75 BB made specifically for the sugino 75 crank (hense the name) |
to op:
no. |
I think I agree with what dobber said. Shimano makes very good BBs, even the cheaper ones are good, and the 7x series is among the best you can buy for the money. Maybe _the_ best value for money.
In general, I am not a fan of expensive crankarms as I don't see the point, but purely from a marketplace point of view, $200 for the Sugino 75 and a Sugino 75 chainring (not some random 144BCD chainring) is a good deal even without the BB. If the items are new. Crankarms don't wear, but BBs and chainrings do. |
