IRO on its way !
 

After ridding a fixed gear bike here and there and lovin it, I decided to get one for myself that will actually fit.
It should be here sometime this comming week; feel like a kid on his birthday. It's going to be black frame, all black parts except silver for crank set, and all black wheel set.
After I paid for it I thought of one concern though, will the axel bolts cause a problem with the frame being aluminum at the drop outs? Thought maybe they would chew it up, so I got paranoid and bought a set of Redline chain tensioners, but was told there should be no problem. I thought aluminum was rather soft though? problem or not?

Aluminum drop outs can get chewed up. Some people like to have steel inserts on the drop outs to protect them. Good nuts rotate around without actually grinding up the drop out. I'm sure you have probably seen the nuts I'm talking about, its sort of like a nut with a built in washer with little teeth on it. The teeth dig into the dropout and the nut just presses on the washer. As long as you are not grinding the washer back and forth on the dropout by constantly pulling the chain loose and then retensioning it you should be fine.

So... your drop outs will be fine as long as you treat them well.

The trackends hold up reasonably well. I would prefer to have some sort of steel insert, but it's not a problem, really.

I have a confession, I was going to get a white one till I SAW YOURS! Honest, I saw yours and called Tony back and said guess what, I want to change the color and parts. He said no problem nothing written in stone here.

Gah, I need a new project. Maybe an IRO frameset will fit the bill...

Thanks, I love blacked out bikes. If your bike looks like thequickfix's then you have got yourself a beautiful bike too. I know a guy who just picked up the same frame as yours. Its not the right size for me to ride so I can't say anything about that, but it sure looks nice.

What model did you get?

I have an all black IRO set up (Jamie Roy) as well. I just wish I could take the decals off. I am really quite against chain stay decals.

I got the same, a black Jamie Roy. I saw thequickfix's bike and fell in love with it, 50 cm. I asked how much it will weigh and he said in your size around 15 or 16 lbs! gotta love that. Just what IS written on the chain stay? I enlarged a couple pictures trying to read it but it distorted too bad.

You won't be disappointed. The Jamie Roy is a very versatile frame. I'm currently riding mine with flat bars and cross tires and a fender for snow and such.

edit: I also changed the saddle to a fizik aliante sport, which is vegan BTW.

That estimate might be a bit low, but it's a light bike.

The chainstays say "you only need one", as in one gear (not one bike).

So how stiff are these things? Is it really as rough of a ride as people say? Do you notice any difference in comfort during ordinary riding conditions?

Hey, I'm so glad I you posted that picture of your bike. I called Tony this Friday afternoon and saw your bike after I got home from work and went online. One look, and probably drooled on my keyboard and called Tony back. I live in Ohio so he said they will build it up Monday and I should get it Tuesday; yes!. Just got home from a very cold 5 mile ride (took the geared Litespeed to the bar) barmaid lets me bring it inside. Vegan saddle huh? ok ok, I use to like your bike.... lol.ha ha.. For almost 3 years I keep thinking I should change that user name.

I would say that this is probably the stiffest frame that I have, but not uncomfortably so. It feels like it flexes less than my steel frames. The only negative thing is that the stock fork tends to transfer a lot of road vibration, which used to hurt my hands on long rides. I put on a nashbar carbon fork for most of the year (when I don't need clearance for cross tires).

Hah. I should, too. I've never been quick.

I'm from Dayton and I felt the same way. If I wasn't getting so much money in scholorships from OU, i surely would have left Ohio all together.
