New Generation Chrome Bags open bottles!?!

I went by my LBS last night so we could all drink to Sheldon, and as it turns out, there we were, 6 mechanics without any way to open their beers.

And then I discovered the strap release lever on the new Chrome buckle works as an excellent bottle opener.

Seems almost too perfect...

Anything can open a bottle if you're thirsty enough.

By that logic, my spoon, fork, lighter, counter top, belt buckle and everything else are all bottle openers. Cheers.

I always have a bottle opener on my keychain, one in my bag, and a lighter in my pocket. This eliminates me ever having to waste an extra second getting to the bottom.

One of the beer salesmen that I work with can open a bottle one handed using his wedding ring! This is the supreme bottle opening method.

That's awesome. I probably couldn't do it though, because mine is tattooed on.

Where there's a will there's a way.

Punch punch punch.

Curse curse curse.

Bleed bleed bleed.

Goddamnit. It's a twist off.

I have some Reef shoes with a bottle opener on them, but I tend to wear mountain biking shoes 90% of the time, especially when I'm drinkin'. One on my bag would be handy.

I use my ring to open bottles.

veeco23 02-05-08 04:03 PM

i know a dude who can open a beer with his teeth. maybe not that hard (i've never tried), but painful to watch.

fixedup 02-05-08 04:07 PM

This is why I have a surly chain tensioner, but honestly almost anything can open up a beer bottle

riderx 02-05-08 04:08 PM

Time pedals, SPDs and similar clipless pedals are all excellent bottle openers.

things that also work nicely: track ends, certain belt buckles, some multi-tools. didn't know the chrome did it.

That was a popular stunt at my high school. If you do it wrong, though, you end up chipping a tooth.

The best way to open a beer, though (I think) is with another beer. Simply place the side of the beer to stay closed under the edge of the cap of the one to be opened, and use the same motion as you would with a lighter. If you do it right, you can get a really good 'pop' and have the cap go flying some 20 feet.

Only problem, of course, is then how do you open the last beer? Well, the obvious solution is to keep enough in stock that there's never a last beer.;)

no offense, but it takes some pretty ****ty mechanics (in a bike shop no less) to even pause at the idea of not being able to open a beer bottle.
i can think of ten things in a shop that would be better suited than your poser purse for opening a beer.

seagull_bags 02-05-08 04:17 PM

I read the thread and realized that you can do that with mine also. I thought i won the ****ing lottery.

Leif-fire-eater 02-05-08 04:21 PM

I can't remember the site now, but sometime around 2003-2004 some german dudes had a website of them traveling the world using anything and everything to open beers. The stupidest was a using the shell of a living giant turtle. Wish I could find it now.

This all happened in the course of seconds. Part of the hesitation was because...ummm... 4 of us should have found other ways to toast Sheldon.

the only thing that sucks about that is you gotta be married to do it.

i too always carry three methods of opening bottles at all times (bottle opener on keys, corkscrew in bag, bic in pocket), but alas, i only drink twistoffs...

I've used this at every single party I've been to in the last year:
