Anodizing
I'm thinking about putting together a anodizing set up to add some spice to some aluminum stuff I have (paintball guns, skateboard trucks, obviously bike components).
I understand the process and what not, like the dangers of high concentrations of sulfuric acid and the chemical process, I just don't know how to go about getting the supplies- should I just get a kit or put together the thing myself from odds and ends and use a car battery *charger? Freakin' hazmat shipping probably costs a ton. Anyone else have experience with anodizing aluminum? Anyone want parts anodized when I put this rig together? |
I've done it in the past. I would put it together yourself. Get a 5 gallon bucket from lowes or some other home improvement store, a couple chunks of re-bar for the poles and a car battery charger, not a car battery. Then you just need the sulfuric acid and the RIT dye. mix the acid and the dye in the bucket, hook up the battery charger. Drop in the part and turn on the charger, wait till it stops bubbling and then unhook everything and fish it out with something non-metal just to be safe.
EDIT: As for acid aquisition, I got my highschool science teacher to get me a science suplier catalog and called in an order to them. They shipped free, so I dont know what the shipping cost, though I remember reading somewhere a cheaper/easier way to get your hands on it, let me try and find it for you. |
I meant charger. My dad used it for his boat batteries.

Thatll work,
so, my original description of the process was pretty vague, but here is a really in depth thread off pbnation. http://www.pbnation.com/showthread.php?t=355794 Thats actually the thread a friend and I used when we did the home annos a while back on paintball markers. |
