No doubt, Phil hubs are awesome. That being said, I have Paul hubs on my Karate Monkey and they are pretty awesome as well. I beat the crap out of them in the dirt. I don't think you could go wrong with either.

i got my paul (rear only) on ebay for 40 bucks brand new, and i love it.
super clean machining, super smooth bearings, and like someone said, a super burly lockring.
i like the hollow axle and allen key design as well. very well thought out.
its a coin toss though. i've seen the phils and am VERY impressed.
but i couldnt pass up a 40 awesome hub.

Now... which spokes are best for a big 230lb guy like me? I heard straight gauged can be stronger than double butted. Is that wrong? I want bombproof. What brand and size spoke is "the best" for my new Phils? Thanks you guys.

Congrats on your purchase (/envy/). As for the spokes: you are wrong, straight gauge is NOT stronger than (intelligently) butted spokes. In fact, the strongest spokes you can buy are TRIPLE-butted: the famous (albeit just slightly more expensive) DT Swiss Alpine III. Those are by far the best spokes in the world. Now that I think of it, they are the best complement to what is probably the best hubset in the world.
