Sparton frames

My LBS juste received them, it's the first time i've seen one and they look just perfect.

They are selling them 400$ cdn and can get me the color I want within a week.

I e-mailed the company yesterday and he told me that he would ship one to me in canada for $ 249 + 20 shipping fees. So I guess I'll order it from them.

Anyone has ever placed an order from them? What are the delays?

One more thing, I heard a lot of good things about those frames but mostly about how they look.

Are they quality frames? Because the only guy that i've seen riding a sparton is that guy on youtube that bent his fork doing a 180. (youtube is blocked at my job so I don't have the link)

wow, they're $249 now? I could have sworn they were under $200 a couple months ago. He must have realized the demand for cheap and colorful track frames in North America

frankstoneline 02-18-08 04:21 PM

Yeah, he's got the prices on the rise. I've heard they require some prep work, or used to, so I would look into that.

This has been covered a lot already but yeah, they are pretty low-end frames and weigh about 5lbs or so. Many people had to have the bb and headset chased/faced. They look okay but 400$CDN is ridiculous, I was offered one here in Toronto for $225 new and I passed on it....$225 for a clunky frame is not really that great, if you ask me.

agreed, I mean, if you REALLY wanted a cheap lugged frame, go for it. But, no amount of lugs would make me pay that for a frame that heavy which I risk shoddy worksmanship on. Thats the only thing that frames requiring pre-assembly work show, shoddy worksmanship.

Here's the video that the OP mentioned, a guy breaking his Sparton fork. Hard to say if the fork breaks because of bad workmanship or because he is trying to do some sweet jumps on a hill:

I have always kinda halfway considered a sparton track, but I am definitely going with something else now. LOL thelook on his face is priceless!

It kinda looks like the fork was already jacked before the bunny hop. I got one of these frames last summer as my first track set up. The major problem i have with the frame is the wonky geo not the weight. For $400 or even $250 i don't thinks its worth it.

I rode one the other day. Indeed it was heavy as hell. The lugs/worksmanship looked a little better than some of the photos I've seen. The track ends do look a little poopy though. I'd say wait for the Kilo TT Pro or reg Kilo TT if you want steel and don't care about lugs or not (it's lighter, fatter tubing = stiffer). Or save up for a proper lugged track frame, like an old European one off eBay or a price-inflated NJS.

I don't know what made me happier today. The puking on a lexus thread or this one.

deathhare 02-18-08 08:03 PM

Puke thread ftw but that jackass bending his Sparton fork was pretty damn good.

BD don't ship to canada, which the OP is from, at least that is what they said about 6 months ago despite it saying on the site that they do. I don't think anyone else carries them?

thatcher 02-18-08 09:37 PM

They will likely be from Taiwan or China which means lower labour costs. You don't want anything lugged at that price-point, the tubing is unknown but it was hinted that it would be Platinum OX.
