Some ones opinion on egg beater C ?
http://i31.tinypic.com/29lgxmx.jpg
I just wanted to know if anyone has some personal experience with these pedals. I run a front brake and use that more than anything at higher speeds. I like to skid and skip when im casually riding Are they worth the extra 40 bucks or should i get the normal 50 dollar eggbeaters ? |
Ive got 3 pairs of the $50 eggbeaters. One of the metal loop pieces broke off on
my oldest set after about 3000 miles of use. They replaced it under warranty very quickly. |
I wanted the black Cs (just for looks), but have the silver SLs - I've put a couple thousand K on them, but all on a geared roadie - so skids/stopping I've no experience with them... I'll always recommend them, though - beautiful pedals and I love them dearly - I've never had a problem when clipped in, they've never popped out on me unexpectedly (this has happened with my SPD pedals) and are super-easy/quick to get into without needing eyes down, etc. Stomp/clip/giv'er.
I got mine for about $60 through a store on eBay, bargain compared to the local stores here. |
just looked on there site one is carbon steel (cheaper one) and has a one year warrenty
while the other is a 300 series stainless and 2 years. The spindle on the expensive one is just chromoly while the other is chromoly steel. it also weights. 20g more than the cheap one. And the wings are made of S45c carbon steel if u think u could damage them or think something could go wrong cause of the matieral then shell out the extra 40 otherwise dont. |
I have the C's and the SL's.
It's not just the material, the SL's are definitely smoother and sleeker. Suggest you try to find a place where you can hold both in your hands and spin them. Impossible to say whether they SL's are worth it for you because forty bucks is more or less precious in different amounts to different people. Oh, FYI, the black rubs off pretty fast wherever your shoe comes in contact with it. (get the SL's) |
C is for crap.
|
i've had good luck with the c's. as it's been said, crank bros. are usually really good about replacing something if it's needed, often for free.
keep an eye out for sales, i got my c's for $50 at performance. |

I have SLs. I dont ride them anymore. I only keep them in case I want to put my single speed in a cyclocross event next fall. If you must get them look into the SLs. When I did a bunch of research on them the SLs seemed like the the best quality versus price model. |
