Did you get your first snow ride in yet with all the weird ass snow I saw you guys were getting?

We had ice the other night, and supposed to get around an inch or ice tonight, might have to go out for a spin. Any links to homemade studded cross tires?

Columbus had some ice on the roads on Tuesday night, Wednesday morning. I slipped on my ass Wednesday but that was because I was on roads that hadn't been iced.

I got some fenders for my bike the other day. No more wet feet!

It doesnt snow much where i live. Question for you guys who ride in snow and on ice. What tires are the best for grip in the cold frozen streets? I was thinking either knobby CX tires or Schwalbe Marathons. There are some studded Marathons at my LBS. Which tires do you guys ride?

Been riding studded for a week after a couple winters of riding on CX tires. Snow/Ice are no longer a problem. Ruts still suck, but are about 10x more manageable than before.

you could easily do seated skids in the snow but probably wouldn't slow you down at all either haha Then again skidding with balls to the stem hardly stops you when it's dry.

I was just doing that for fun. I could also ride forward with the rear wheel going in the opposite direction. Seated skids werent that tough. I was talking about the actual brakes, not skidding though. the calipers just glide along the rim like it was greased.

haha. yeah pretty much resistance is the only decent way of stopping in snow unless you have nice brakes with machined sidewalls

Yeah I did! It was awesome. I had a blast. I didn't really go onto the main roads though in fear of worse driving than usual. I was all decked out like Randy Parker from The Christmas story since I don't handle cold well haha. I'm excited for Albany.

i've been running 700x23 tires, not a great idea, but they get the job done.

I'm running 25s currently, and really, they're OK for the most part, especially if I stick to arterial roads that are pretty regularly plowed. It's the black ice I'm really worried about when running slicks....

But I wanna be able to plow through some stuff, not just tip-toe around the winter, y'know?

Anyone else having issues with cities not plowing the side roads? Most of my routes around town are on side roads and I'm running into 2-3 inches of rutted roads and im running 23's.
I heard Chicago is cutting back on the plowing too(to save money).
