I'd be fine with him staying in the track forum instead of harassing everyone who rides a track bike off of the track whenever possible.

Placid Casual 02-23-08 05:37 PM

We are finally rid of him and you guys are blowing it. Hell is other people.

Noestaencasa 02-23-08 05:44 PM

Prediction:

he'll pull a DW and come back when he cools off. time away from here can be a good thing.

DW

i think if everyone spent a lot less time on here, then no one would really care nearly as much about any of this. but i agree that dutret was an interesting fellow. and yes, bfssfg would not be nearly as entertaining without deathhare and doofo.

Igneous Faction 02-24-08 02:14 AM

Who will call people out on their negative rise track stem/riser combos now that he's gone?

Suttree 02-24-08 03:10 AM

DH is funnier that DT

Various other people are wittier.

DT has a ton of knowledge supposedly and my limited experience
supports this supposition but I don't care. He never was entertaining.
He is an asset because of his knowledge but lots of books
have good information that aren't fun to read.

4doorhoor 02-24-08 04:55 AM

I think that we should all travel to a predetermined neutral location. Then we shall all partake in watching deathhare, doofo, and dutret release all of their built up internet angst against each other in whatever way they decide to be best. Whether it be fighting, loving, or both. Lets see what happens!

kidtwisty 02-24-08 05:03 AM

^^
but that would take all the fun out of it.

travsi 02-24-08 05:14 AM

i think the main point is that you need ying and yang.

i.e. superman has no point without lex luther and vice versa.

Boss Moniker 02-24-08 09:51 AM

I had a flame war with Dutret and all I got was this lousy signature.

Dutret was pretty knowledgeable, but not more so than plenty of members on here. He would always take the conservative, obvious viewpoint which was usually "Don't do this stupid idea, it's a waste of money, you're only doing it because it looks cool, use the tried and true method, it's not going to work, etc." That's only really effective when the OP doesn't already know it.

Plus he was a dick in pretty much every situation. Even if he posted genuine advice in a genuinely relevant and interesting thread, he voiced it as if 200 people showed up at his doorstep at 2am demanding answers. He opened the thread on his own accord.. at that point you pretty much forfeit all rights to acting annoyed and it becomes downright rude.

I'm not happy he's gone, it's nice having an antagonist and a decently experienced one at that, plus the beat-downs on unsuspecting hipsters are entertaining for everyone, but there's really no need to idolize him.

sp00ki 02-24-08 09:53 AM

i still don't think he knew how to ride a bike.

shasta 02-24-08 02:21 PM

I didn't start reading much on this site until that dude was gone I guess. I'd like if they brought him back just so I could see what all the hype is about.

goldenskeletons 02-24-08 06:18 PM

i for one have really been enjoying hearing more people's "today i did this on my bike and it was awesome" stories without being dead certain that its going to turn into a flame war about semantics or some inane discrepancy no one needs corrected.

people are posting more freely around here lately.

also, the dead of winter means less clueless newbies asking a million helmet/brake/pista/bandanna questions. so that's making this place a little more hospitable as well. there's also a bunch of people on here that i'm realizing i would probably get along with really, really well with in real life too.

andrewssohip 02-24-08 07:06 PM

i want juvi-kyle to come back, especially if dutret comes back.

Serendipper 02-24-08 07:34 PM

I would seriously consider this as an epitath on my headstone.

Remember when Juvi wanted to give him an "Ask dutret" column on trackosaurus? That would have been golden.

sloppy robot 02-25-08 12:50 AM

Without a doubt. But what ol' Dutret never understood--and what some of the people who fawn over him still don't understand--is that having all the knowledge isn't the same as having all the answers.

The Dute knew a great deal about the optimal way to set up a bike...for a guy like him. But other people have other criteria for what makes bike riding worthwhile. Including, but not limited to, fun. These people will cheerfully and knowingly take a minor performance hit in exchange for a bike that they can't wait to hop on to in the morning. That's their choice. The Dutrets of the world can't accept this for some reason.

Do we really know he's gone, BTW? For all I know, he could be in the Alt Bike Culture subforum right now, banging out an indignant lecture on how mechanically inefficient it is to ride bicycles consisting of dumpstered frames welded on top of each other by drunk anarcho-hessians.

operator 02-25-08 06:22 AM

Can this thread die already.
