what is the most affordable disc wheel out there? when i search i just keep finding the same couple of wheels.

A well used one.

If you want new, the HED is the best track disc deal I know of at $700. Used, you can find okay deals on track discs with lockrings, and even better ones on old discs with the freewheel threading + no lockring. Either way you'd be mildly ******** running them regularly on the street, have fun on that. As a sunny day Sunday wheel I could see, as a full out daily fashion accessory... don't get killed.

Disc wheels are not meant to be affordable, they're for (elite) racing.

i know hed has a track conversion kit, does anyone know if Renn does? i couldnt find anything on their site.

There are kits you can buy that clap ABS dishes to the sides of a regular wheel. I think they're about 60.

No silly. It goes with the 650c front wheel for the ultra track stylz.

Maybe I should have just left out the front wheel part, but me having to explain it kind of takes the edge off my flow. I hate you

I hope the next big thing in fixie stylz is snocone makers. Mainly because snocones are delicious.

I have one that I want to sell, IMO, disc wheels are definitely out of the ordinary but they're not necessarily the best thing for commuting on (weight, tubular tires, fragility). Maybe fine for alleycats or just hanging out. I think they're best kept to the track (especially if they only have freewheel threads).

I would say you're not going to be able to find an affordable used carbon disc very easily, but you might have luck with a fiberglass one.

There's no practical reason for anyone to be using disc wheels on the road except for time trial events.

Nearly identical performance for exponentially less. Plus if you decide to go crazy with decoration or it breaks, you're not really at too much of a loss. I plan on building a beater back wheel with the covers on for zippin around town.

ahahah, why would you want one? are you seriously going to be racing on the track. this disc wheel/aero/HED is getting out of control.

if you're looking primarily for aero advantage, the clip-on disc sections will provide a performance increase over a plain spoked wheel at very little additional cost. this matters more in a TT event because speeds are generally higher than in a track situation. if you want scene points then be prepared for time investment on ebay or elsewhere, and likely a crash course in loctite application, fun with gluing tubulars on the side of the road, and combating crosswinds.

disks I have scored for cheap....
sugino 75 honeycomb - dented up, well used, track conversion (therefore cheap)
another s75 - painted white with rattle can (therefore cheap)
another s75　- came on a naga i bought from a keirin senshu in kyoto (therefore cheap)
araya white alumi disk (new old stock)...very old deadstock at a roadie shop (roadies are scared of non carbon disks therefore cheap)...had to buy the trk conversion kit....
hed and renn are cheap new. i have never used either though, they do not seem strong enough for silly street abuse. The S75 can cop all sorts of abuse.

oh, i know. i figured if the OP was going to be busy scouring for used discs (s)he wouldn't be so picky and may likely end up with a tubular one with freewheel threading.

Unless the rear wheel is also a 650c it is most certainly not ultra track stylz.
