Less fixies on the streets tonight

I wonder if there will be a corresponding drop-off in the number of fixies being ridden in the posh urban cultural districts tonight?

do hipsters actually love starbucks as much as people claim? i don't know a single person who could be classified as a hipster who loves (more often it's the opposite) that place. usually seems to be more of a magnet for the SUV driving greek tote bag carrying sweatpants with dumb **** written on the ass wearing ugg boot hoarding northface jacket donning crowd. not that i have anything against them

if we're gonna stereotype (which we are), let's at least do it right.

of course not.
you're basically looking at an out-dated stereotype (we're talking circa 1990s here) perpetuated by clueless holywood consultants and out-of-touch suburbanites trying to cash in on cooler-than-thou bs.
the only people who go to starbucks (at least in east coast cities) are yuppies, old people, and med students who don't want to pay for internet.

Spot on. At least from the observations I made working at one for two years. My store was down the street from a research looney bin on one end and harvard on the other so I got a lot of people who I couldn't tell if they were patients or OCD doctors.

We even had a doctor who didn't want to pay for an office so he held sessions in the cafe...

That's odd. Here in Columbus, StarBucks make you pay for your internet through those crappy T-Mobile hot spots.

Probably not. I belive the coffee house de jure these days are the "fair trade" coffee houses.

But since when has the truth gotten in the way of stereotyping?

They do / did eveyrwhere, and yes you had to pay. Dropped T-Mobile just last month I think for AT&T and will be offering more free service. I know we had a lot of people on laptops who were not using the internet or were leaching off other wifi spots.

^^^ Ah, well that's good. Then again, I guess they're not doing so well, and need to entice people to come to their stores.

Doesn't matter, I still support my local coffee store! Like the coffee table!....errm....

I don't think so, as I like my rot gut to come from any local store that isn't overrun by SUV's in the parking lot.

i think people are getting confused by hipsters and whatever the modern variation of yuppie looks like.

as for me? i do ethnic coffee: lebanese, vietnamese iced, etc. leave it to white people to mess up simple things like coffee.

vietnamese iced rocks!

I sure hope Starbucks gets off its ass and starts doing better because I have a lot of stock in them. (Employee options from when I worked there)

Starbucks is way to popular for hipsters to like it. Isn't one of the prerequisites of being a hipster that you only like stuff that is at least semi underground?

The sterotype you are describing I call yuppie scum and you 100% correct with your description of what the typical Starbucks consumer looks like here too.

Anyone who actually enjoys drinking coffee doesn't drink starbucks. I would rather have a caffene headache then drink their brew.

When I choose my beans I always try to buy from a local roaster. We have several here and they all seem to have several blends that I enjoy.

The only people I know who drink Starbucks are pretty mainstream in their tastes, totally not what I would consider hipster.

As for me, give me tea.

+1, I'm still hunting around for the secret **** here in Edinburgh but in Vancouver where I lived before there were some local roaster/ coffee places that absolutely put Starbucks to shame.

Starbucks' problem is deeper than their beans too. The biggest issue with that place is their industrialization of the coffee making process, and their devaluing the employees' skill and craft. To get a truly good coffee at a coffee place you need great beans, a nice manual machine, a barista who knows exactly what they're doing and an owner/ employer who values all of the above. Starbucks has none of these.

The thing with starbucks is they drive more business to the other coffee shops. In a lot of markets the small cafés wouldn't exist if it wasn't from the Starbucks driving in the business. Also in the US we had no / very few café styled places and starbucks opened that up for us.

I'd rather be bit in the cack by a midget than drink starbucks. I steal my beans from children in an enclave of yuppie scum who buy commercially raised stock from oppressive regimes. I make myself a cup of coffee then fly back to Columbia and redistribute the beans to the local populace like some sort of latter day over-caffienated hipster robin hood. I'd brag about it on the internetz, but I'm too modest.

I agree. As much as I dislike starbucks' coffee and prices, their zen green tea is quite good. And its not like there are tea shops on every corner

I'm surprised that some of the replies refer to the stinky black goo that Starbucks peddles as "coffee". I'm convinced that it's burnt oven cleaner with hints of motor oil.

In the Northeast perhaps that's true. Out here on the West Coast, however, even a cowtown like Sacramento had plenty of cafes before Starbucks arrived.

I am a ******bag hipster and I drink Starbucks nearly every day. However, I don't think I could afford to buy all the gold parts for my bike if I worked there. Instead, I sell Nikes on eBay.
