I saw these at Freewheel Valencia today.. I remember an orange one being labeled "special fixed" Anyone know where I can find info on them?

It happened with skateboarding and BMX.

i'd definitely say we're getting there. the felt bike and the motobecane "messenger" are both signs of this.

Yeah, but I think it was good for skateboarding. It poured a lot of money into the industry so that, even though the pop craze died years ago for skating, we have much better products available to us now.
