Bareknuckle Geometry
I'm trying to figure out what size Bareknuckle frame to order. I'm 6', with a 32.5'' inseam (measured via the book-in-the-crotch-against-the-wall method). A past thread on this same subject produced these figures on standover height:
54cm - "I have 54 and the standover is 31"ish. ..maybe 31 1/2." 56cm - "i measured mine at 33.5" standover for a 56." A 2+ inch increase in standover height over a 2cm increase in frame size seems a bit inflated to me. My worry is that a 54 frame will be too cramped, but I (supposedly) can't stand over the 56. If anyone can provide additional measurements, or offer insight into the ideal frame size for my dimensions based on their experience, I'd be very appreciative. Thanks. |
54 vs 56
Well, I am just over 5'9" tall and a 54cm fits me perfectly when riding the bike (slight layed back seatpost and 100mm stem). It is true that the standover height is greater than what a normal 54cm road frame would be. When I am standing over the top tube, it's really snug - even taller than my 56cm conversion.
I'm no expert and I don't have a 56 to measure against but I'm guessing a 54 will feel really small to you. Try to find a shop that has one built up so you can check it out in person. Good luck. |

standover is the worst way to size a frame. how often when riding do you stand over your perfectly vertical bike frame without shoes on? 54 will be way to small. 56 or 58 would likely fit. |

I'm 6'1" and ride a 58cm bareknuckle and its spot on for me. Either 56 or 58 will probably work for you with either a longer or shorter stem. Pay more attention to (effective) top tube length and head tube length and don't worry about a frame's "size" or its standover. |
Thanks for the advice.

I ride a 54 comfortably and I'm like 6 foot, maybe a touch over. I find my 54 very comfy, but I'm built a bit weird.
