Pretty much on what both of you said. I was too busy listening to Project X to be a discerning judge of character. I also read this mess frequently, so apparently it hasn't gotten any better... and I talk like I live on a beach. I'm doomed.

2 wheels good, 4 wheels baaaaaaad.

Mash was a huge let down, not that I have anything against fixed gear tricks (I don't do any tricks, but if you can do barspins, then I will watch and be entertained.) but nothing in the video is even that cool. More interviews would be nice. The only thing I liked were the parts where cars would cut in front of them, and they would fishtail skid out of the way, that was crazy. Other than that, it was kind of boring.

Also, That SF bike was hilarious.

i've been riding fixed for well over a year now, and i could care less about anyone 'bashing' on wheelies, tricks, carbon wheels or stickers ect.
if anyone wants to get rid of their aerospoke cause they're worried about being called a hipster, i''ll buy it.
hopefully road bikes will become the next love/hate trend, cause i'm looking for a road bike and would like to see the market change in my favor.

who cares. your only riding your bike.

The videos I've seen of messengers in NYC was a lot more interesting than the mash SF stuff. Pretty boring. Riding down hills, smoking cigs and doing skid stops? Flatland bmx and stuff is where it's at when it comes to acrobatics.

It's good if people see that and want to ride a bike. Can you argue with that?

I liked these two quotes from earlier entries:

First off there is not one of us here who was the first to ride a fixed Gear, and none of us will be the last. I can appreciate the skill of the riders on the Mash video. I liked watching the riders in traffic. It’s impressive. But I will agree that the tricks look a little dorky. The important thing is that we ride, it doesn’t matter how or what kind of bike. I like fixed for what it is and the connection I have with the bike, I am sure I am not alone in saying that. The only feeling of shame that I get from riding fixed is because it in some way associates me with the elitist snobbery of some people who ride them too. But I have a feeling they will go as quickly as they appeared. So to each their own, ride however, and whatever you want. Put aside the superiority complex, and make room for anyone who loves to ride a bike.

That is a double negative in your sentence... which would make tricks cool. Why don't you just say it isn't your thing? If it were not for Mash I doubt YOU would have been exposed to fixed gear bikes.

they probably chalk it up to the meaningless chatter of people they don't give a **** about.

which is, incidentally, exactly what other people can and should do about people who ride bikes in ways they don't approve of.

Do people think that hating on the coolness of fixed gears makes them above it?

That's it folks! End of discussion.

But seriously, the guys in MASH look like they're having a lot of fun on their bikes and they could really care less what a bunch of random people on the internet think of them. I enjoyed MASH the first time I saw it, and there are some parts that I still like a lot. Who cares what the "fixed gear scene" becomes? Set up your bike how you want to, ride it where you want to, ride it the way you want to. Who cares if everyone else on the planet has an arrospok?

Having said this, I'm not about to stop judging people based on the over the top-ness of their bikes. It's a good ideal to aspire to, though...

Mash was great...and the guys were super nice at the osaka premiere. They threw a good event/race afterwards too.
yes bmx are far better for tricks, but they suck for getting around on, and taking to velodromes, street races etc...track bikes are versatile, in an awkward way!
whoever posted that CL thing is ****ing sad.
Anyway, you know DH just started this thread in hope of bringing up aerospoke conversations!
