You can do better for $1420

Pwnt 03-09-08 10:19 AM

It's nice but there are cheaper "fun" bikes out there.

kbencsp 03-09-08 10:20 AM

^^such as? just did a search and it wasnt to helpful

barba 03-09-08 10:22 AM

I would be inclined to buy a nicer frame and build it up for that price tag. Unspecified cro-moly and Formula hubs seem kind of downscale for that price tag.

zelah 03-09-08 10:23 AM

If you are new, search. there have been several threads about this bike.

Pwnt 03-09-08 10:24 AM

anything by Surly for one. Google "track cycling frames".

Holy schnike! I haven't seen that bike before. Looks like Fuji took their standard track frame, and added some standard fixie fashion elements. blacked out, Gold ano everywhere, Miche Pr1mato cranks, and a brooks swift! and a production bike with no tape on the bars! :-O

The saddle is worth more than the ***** frame. Overall it's a kinda nice looking bike. I don't persoanlly care for gold anodized parts, and for that money I'd rather start with a nicer frame and build it myself with parts of my own choosing. Then again Fujis often get pretty inexpensive on end of year sales, this might be a nice bargain next year.

kjohnnytarr 03-09-08 10:45 AM

Nobody's saying it, but we actually hate that bike.

I_luv_hooters 03-09-08 10:57 AM

Somewhere a designer for Obey put together a concept of a bike that represents Obey's brand. If you like it, get it. Sure you could get a better bike, but this bike is very unique. Don't ask for people to feel the same way you do, they won't. I havent seen one of these on the street yet, so its not as lame as a Langster, IMO. I kind of like the bike. Buy it if you can afford it.

wroomwroomoops 03-09-08 11:08 AM

Yeah, I also kinda like it, but not for the price. I think the frameset is really very cool - shame they aren't sold separately.

noahgansett 03-09-08 11:15 AM

The OBEY frameset is a much nicer and lugged frame than the standard Fuji Track frame.

Jabba Degrassi 03-09-08 12:52 PM

But guys, it has gold nipples.

fixedup 03-09-08 12:55 PM

If you're going to spend that much, get a jamis sonik, bianchi pista concept, fuji track pro, the list goes on and on

Hah... thanks. Edited it away. Now you can, too :)

deadforkinglast 03-09-08 01:24 PM

You can get a Pista Concept and put some high-quality, bling-bling components for that much money. You could probably do a full NJS build for that much money. Basically, you could build something REALLY nice with that money. You could even have a shop build something up for you with some nice handbuilt wheels.

c0urt 03-09-08 01:35 PM

it is interesting, but it smacks of effort.

I also just looks like they did a search of the picture thread looked at what was most common and slapped it on one bike.

if i had a 1500 hundred buck budget I think I would go i a different direction. I have a hard on for converted steel tri-bikes myself. look around I am sure you will find something in lugged steel you like

rickyaustin 03-09-08 02:17 PM

I personally will not buy a Fuji because of this bike.

I also won't shop at Buckle anymore for shoes/clothes.

The reason? Shepard Fairey. I can't stand him or the 'obey' crap. I feel he gives designers a bad name and his work is completely self-serving. I refuse to support a company who works with him in these fashions.

Brand it as propoganda and pocket the proceeds... clever, but he's a tool.

moz138 03-09-08 03:55 PM

Shepard Fairey isnt obey. He started the aesthetic but now its all kinds of different artist. Im not trying to be a jerk but it sounds like you have an ill-informed knee jerk opinion based on the kind of people you see wearing obey clothes. Shepard fairey is an artist. not a designer. hes just a regular guy.

p.s. i had never heard of a buckle store. i looked it up. maybe you shouldn't shop there because its ****ING LAME. as for that bike, theres a shop down here that has one, which is surprising for florida. it seems just ok. really over priced for what the bike comes with. in my opinion one of the best things about owning the bikes i have owned is the work that i have put into them. im not judging at all, but i cant see how i could have a real connection with a bike that i pulled off of a rack.

it's 1100 dollars here, as opposed to 1400 or whatever retail is. Not saying I like it... just thought that might help

kergin 03-09-08 04:38 PM

That bike embodies is everything wrong with the FGSS culture.

roadgator 03-09-08 04:42 PM

well, damn near $400 of that bike is in the saddle alone.

why would they put a brooks on a stock bike?
